Taxi Driver

Published by Psy

Taxi Driver

Borrow a Taxi and make extra cash by picking up and dropping off passengers as a Taxi Driver in GTA Advance.

To start the Taxi Driver missions, you'll need to acquire a taxi (those yellow cabs you'll see driving around mostly everywhere) and press L + R together.

GTA Advance Taxi Driver 2

The objective of the Taxi Driver missions is to find a fare - a pedestrian with a blue arrow above their head, pull up next to them so they can get in, then drive them to their requested destination. The game will randomly assign you a pedestrian and also a random destination, but unlike the Taxi Driver mission in other GTA games, the destinations aren't named, they can often be in the middle of streets, or random parking lots.

The Taxi Driver missions are slightly similar to the Vigilante and Firefighter missions in GTA Advance in that there's no level system in place. You simply need to complete 100 fares in total, whether that's 100 in a row, or 1 fare on 100 separate attempts. There's no reward for completing multiple fares in a row, although your total time will increase after each fare meaning you can eventually have upwards of 60 minutes to complete your fare, essentially removing the need for speed.

You do have to drive fairly carefully however, as damaging the taxi too much to the point it starts spitting out black smoke will make your passenger exit the vehicle and you'll be unable to pick up another one until you get it repaired. If this happens, your total time will also be reset but the current fare count will remain. If you want to keep increasing your available time, head to the Pay 'n' Spray as soon as you start seeing white smoke from the taxi. I personally ended up going after every 3 or 4 fares.

I prefer to do the Taxi Driver missions on Staunton Island as the roads are a bit less complicated than Portland, plus the Pay 'n' Spray is in the middle of the city so you'll likely be driving past it on a regular basis where you can repair your car.

You might get lucky around 1 in every 10 fares and the destination will be pretty close by, but in general you'll be driving back and forth to opposite ends of the island.

GTA Advance Taxi Driver 9

There's no penalty if you accidentally run over and kill your potential fare, the game will just spawn a new one elsewhere for you.

To beat the mission you need to complete 100 fares in total, however you'll actually receive the reward for this mission after the 50th fare - a Borgnine taxi will permanently spawn outside the Portland safehouse. If you're aiming for 100% completion, you'll still need to complete all 100 fares though.

Hints & Tips
When you complete 100 fares, the game will tell you the Taxi Mission is complete, so you won't have to worry about keeping count.

Let's be honest, the taxi missions are a bit of a drag. Completing 100 fares will be very time consuming will probably take the best part of 2 hours. You can always do 10 at a time between story missions to make it more bearable though.

Time Limits & Rules

The time will constantly count down, so you need to be reasonably quick at getting the passenger to their destination. Each sucessful drop off will give a time boost, but after a few fares, you'll have more than enough time to reach the other end of the island with a trip to the Pay 'n' Spray thrown in.

If you're looking to complete all 100 fares in a row, you'll probably need to head to the Pay 'n' Spray to get your car fixed numerous times as passengers will refuse to get in, or even flee in terror once it starts emitting black smoke. There's no bonus for completing 100 fares in a row, besides being able to see exactly how many you've done in the counter at the top of the screen.

The mission will end if you exit the Taxi.

You'll also fail the mission if you are Wasted, Busted or you run out of time.

Tips

The Taxi Driver missions are relaxing, but certainly time consuming and repetitive. Time isn't really an issue on the missions after a few consecutive fares, so just worry about driving carefully and trying to keep your car in one piece. Once your car starts to get damaged and smoking, take it to the Pay 'n' Spray to repair it so you can keep your streak going. Ultimately the only point in delivering passengers in a row is for even more time anyway so I personally wouldn't worry about it.

Rewards

  • After completing 50 fares in total, the maroon colored Borgning taxi will spawn outside your Portland hideout. It might be slightly heavier than the regular taxi, but speed or handling-wise I don't think it's too much different.

  • After completing 100 fares in total you'll complete the mission and earn percentage towards 100% completion.

The Taxi Driver missions are a requirement towards 100% completion.
