Grand Theft Auto IIIGTA III - Story Mission Guide

Liberator

Donald Love tasks Claude with rescuing an old oriental gentleman from the Cartel in Aspatria.

CARTEL CRUISER REQUIRED
This mission will force you to acquire a Cartel Cruiser, the blue gang car used by the Colombian gang. If you turn up to the mission start point with one, it'll save you a bit of time.
Cutscene
Claude heads to the upper floors of Donald Love's building and meets him for the first time. Donald is on his treadmill when Claude arrives and thanks him for dealing with that personal matter - where he destroyed the photos and evidence of his morgue party. Donald tells Claude that experience has taught him that a man like him can be very loyal for the right price, but groups of men get greedy. He explains that a valued resource, an old oriental gentleman he knows, has been kept hostage by some South Americans in Aspatria. They're trying to extort additional funds from Donald, but he doesn't believe in re-negotiation. A deal is a deal so they'll not see a penny from him. He wants Claude to rescue his friend and do whatever it takes.

Once back outside, the game will explain you'll need to steal a Colombian gang car.

If you brought one with you, get inside it and make your way straight to Aspatria. If not, head to the construction site in Fort Staunton and you'll find one parked up outside.

Sometimes it's locked, so if this is the case you'll probably need to drive around the block and check again, but you'll usually be able to jack one being driven around that area anyway, just be careful because the Cartel are always hostile towards you and will open fire.

Once you're driving the Cartel Cruiser, you'll need to head to a garage and yard area in Aspatria, South of the stadium. The yard is behind a locked gate and will only open for a Cartel vehicle, which is exactly why we had to acquire one.

Drive up to the gate and it'll open and you can head inside.

Once you do, you'll be told the old oriental gentleman must be inside one of the garages, but be careful because the area is hot with Cartel soldiers.

The best technique seems to be to stay right near the entrance and pick off the enemies using your vehicle as cover. If you have a long range weapon, you can take most of them down before they even spot you.

A sniper rifle is extremely useful and it will probably prevent you taking any damage at all.

Once all of the enemies in the yard are taken care of, you'll need to approach each garage to see if the old gentleman is inside. Most of them also contain Cartel soldiers, so you need to be careful and ready to open fire. A useful technique is to use a gun which can lock-on to enemies and aim at the garage door. If there's an enemy behind it, the gun will lock on so you can be prepared to open fire the second it opens.

Be very careful however, as it's possible to kill the old oriental gentleman if you use explosives or have really bad aim.

Once you track him down and kill the Cartel guarding him, run over to him and he'll start to follow you.

Feel free to snap a selfie with him before making your escape.

There's a parked Cartel Cruiser in a garage, or you could take the one you brought in the first place, but I strongly recommend you take one with you now. You'll need another Cartel Cruiser for the next mission, so you'll save yourself some time by bringing one back to Donald Love's place now.

Drive back South to Donald Love's building and pull up in the blue marker outside.

Cutscene
The old oriental gentleman gets out of the car and runs into Donald Love's building.

Mission Passed!

CARTEL CRUISER REQUIRED... AGAIN
Assuming you drove back to Donald Love's building in the Cartel Cruiser, keep it. You'll need it for his next mission which you can start right away.
Warning!
Do not start Donald Love's next mission until you have completed all of Kenji's missions at his casino, or you'll lock yourself out of some story missions and make it impossible to achieve 100%!
