Grand Theft Auto IIIGTA III - Story Mission Guide

Payday For Ray

Published by Psy
Last Updated

Asuka wants Claude to meet her inside man in the LPD by following a trail of payphones to his secret location.

Cutscene
Asuka is back at her condo and welcomes Claude, telling him Maria is all tied up at the moment, cue Maria in the background telling Asuka she knows she's been a naughty girl but she really needs to pee! Asuka then gets down to business and explains it's time Claude met their inside man in the LPD. She owes her contact money for the last job he did and wants Claude to deliver it. He is understandably cautious, so Claude must get to the pay phone in Torrington as quickly as he can and await his instructions.

When the mission starts, you're given a timer of 3:30 to reach not one, but four different payphones scattered around Staunton Island. You'll need a fast car and you'll need to drive relatively well because destroying it could cost you too much time. In the original version of the game, this mission was extremely challenging however the Definitive Edition makes it much easier with the map and GPS to ensure you're going the right way.

The first payphone is at the South of Staunton, marked with a light blue blip on the radar. If you didn't bring your own car to Asuka's place, the Yakuza Stinger parked nearby is quick and should do the job.

Speed your way to the payphone in Torrington, then exit your vehicle and run up to it on foot to answer it.

Cutscene
Claude answers the phone and a robotic voice tells him to "get to the payphone in West Belleville Park".

The target blip now moves to a payphone on the West side of the Island, one block away from the actual park in Belleville. The best way to get there is to head up the road which leads to the Shoreside Vale lift bridge and you'll find the phone on the sidewalk just in front of the bridge entrance which is currently blocked off.

Cutscene
Claude answers the phone and a robotic voice tells him to "get to the payphone on Liberty Campus".

The next phone is inside Liberty Campus, which is situated just East of the Stadium, South of the hospital and West of the construction site. From the previous phone, cut down the grass next to the Shoreside bridge entrance, head up the road to the stadium then cut across the grass past the stadium and into Liberty Campus where you'll find the phone on the Eastern wall.

Cutscene
Claude answers the phone and a robotic voice tells him to "get to the payphone in South Belleville Park".

The final payphone is directly South of the actual park in Belleville, next to the city hall building. At this point you should have around 1 minute remaining, but as long as you have at least 30 seconds you should be able to make it. Speed onto the road in front of the construction site and head South past your safehouse and the park and you'll find the ringing phone next to two other payphones beside the city hall.

Cutscene
Claude answers the phone and a robotic voice tells him to "meet me in the toilet block in the park".

The timer for the mission ends now, so the final part is completely stress free. All you need to do now is get back in your vehicle and drive into the park North of your current position. In the center of the park is a public toilet down some stairs.

Walk down the stairs and you'll see a blue marker to enter.

Cutscene
Inside, Claude meets Asuka's contact in the police.
He asks if Claude has the money and if it's all there, then says he knows what Claude is thinking... Another bent cop... Well, it's a bent world.
Just because he lost a few partners, the suckers from internal affairs have started sniffing around. They reckon they can smell him, but this city is just one big open sewer. He's going to need some non-union help and tells Claude if he's interested, he knows where to find him.

Post-Mission
This mission requires speed. You may have to play through a few times before you can get it right, due to the fact that a fairly big error such as blowing your car up and having to find a new one will likely cost you the mission. You've got a time limit to speed around the island answering different phones. The first one you need to answer is in Torrington, so head up the hill and make a left turn then speed towards the phone using your radar. Once you've got that, you then need to answer the phone in Belleville Park. This phone is actually on the main road leading to the bridge to Shore Side Vale though, so make your way across there as fast as possible. After answering that you'll be ordered to get to the phone at Liberty Campus, which is just in front of the hospital, so make your way there and answer it. The final phone you'll need to answer is just past Belleville Park. Once you've got this, the timer stops and you can take as much time as you need to go into the toilets inside the park to pass the mission.
