Grand Theft Auto IIIGTA III - Side Mission Guide

Paramedic

Published by Psy

Paramedic

Steal an Ambulance and rescue dying patients in GTA 3's Paramedic missions.

To start the Paramedic missions, you'll need to climb into an Ambulance and press the d-pad up button. Ambulances will permanently spawn outside the hospital on each island, or you can cause some mayhem by killing a few people and wait for one to arrive.

Warning!
It's very strongly recommended to complete the Paramedic missions as soon as possible in the game. You'll probably find them easiest in Portland, but once enemy gangs become hostile towards you, it makes the missions much harder if not impossible. The reward of Infinite Sprint is extremely useful in general gameplay too.

The objective of the Paramedic missions is to drive across the city to pick up injured patients and deliver them to the hospital. Each level will add more patients to collect but the Ambulance can only hold a maximum of 3 at any one time, so the higher levels will require multiple drop-offs at the hospital. The patients will spawn fairly randomly on the sidewalk around the city, but thankfully they just stay where they are.

The mission up to and including Level 12 will take around 40 minutes to an hour to complete and needs to be completed in a single run, increasing the stress levels. If you fail on Level 11, you're basically going to need to do the whole thing again.

Time Limits & Rules

The time will constantly count down, so you need to be as quick as you can to reach the patients. After collecting a patient you'll receive a time bonus which is usually more than enough time to get to the next nearest patient or the hospital. On later levels, you'll also receive a time bonus when dropping patients off at the hospital.

In the Definitive Edition of the game, crashing the Ambulance and injuring any patients on board will cause the time to be reduced.

The mission will end if you exit the Ambulance, so don't do it!

You'll also fail the mission if you are Wasted, Busted, the Ambulance is destroyed or a patient is killed.

Level Breakdown

Level Patients Total Patients Breakdown
1 1 1 1 Drop-Off
2 2 3 1 Drop-Off
3 3 6 1 Drop-Off
4 4 10 2 Drop-Offs
5 5 15 2 Drop-Offs
6 6 21 2 Drop-Offs
7 7 28 3 Drop-Offs
8 8 36 3 Drop-Offs
9 9 45 3 Drop-Offs
10 10 55 4 Drop-Offs
11 11 66 4 Drop-Offs
12 12 78 4 Drop-Offs

Tips

The Ambulance has decent speed and handling but you should NEVER drive straight towards a patient. Always slow down when near them and pull up alongside them, not moving until they open the door and begin to climb in.

On the later levels, pause the game and check the map to see where the patients are. You'll need to collect them in groups of 3, so try to break them down into sections where possible to avoid wasting time driving back and forth across the city.

When you first leave the hospital, try to collect 3 patients who are close together as this will give you a good time boost which will help you reach the patients who are more spread out.

Rewards

  • After completing Level 8 (or rescuing 43 patients in total) a health pickup will be delivered to all three safehouses.
  • After rescuing 78 patients in total an adrenaline pickup will be delivered to all three safehouses.
  • After completing level 12 (in a single run), Claude will never tire from running. This means you can sprint at full speed indefinitely which is very useful throughout the game.
  • Cash rewards will increase with each level completed.

Depending on the island you start the missions, you'll deliver patients to one of the three hospitals.

The Paramedic missions are a requirement towards 100% completion.
