Grand Theft Auto IIIGTA III - Story Mission Guide

Kanbu Bust-Out

Published by Psy
Last Updated

Kenji wants Claude to bust a Yakuza executive out of the police station holding cells.

Warning!
Ensure you complete all of Kenji's missions before working for Donald Love or you can be locked out of some story missions which will prevent 100% completion.
Cutscene
Claude meets Kenji in a rooftop garden on top of his casino, who tells him Asuka speaks highly of him, but he's yet to be convinced that a gaijin can offer anything but disappointment.
He wants Claude to help him deal with a situation that has him at a disadvantage. A Yakuza Kanbu is in custody awaiting transfer for trial. He wants to break him out and get him to the dojo at Bedford Point.

Once on foot and outside, the game will inform you to acquire a cop car which you'll need to gain access to the back of the police station.

Luckily there's one in the parking lot out front of the nearby police station, so head there and grab it. The police car parked here is never locked.

Once inside, you'll be told to get the car fitted with a bomb at 8-Ball's bomb shop next to the Pay 'n' Spray, so make your way along the freeway to the North.

Pull into the garage and let the door close for a timer-bomb to be fitted to the vehicle.

You now need to head back to the police station near the casino.

Once you arrive back in the parking lot, you'll notice a locked gate to the right of the police building.

The gate won't open for anything but police vehicles, so the fact you're in a cop car means it'll open for you when you drive close enough and wait.

Follow the path to the back of the police station and you'll see a blue marker where you can park the rigged vehicle.

Before you get out, remember to arm the bomb by pressing Left on the D-Pad.

Once you do, move well clear of the vehicle as it's on a timer and will explode shortly.

Eventually it goes up in flames, blowing a hole in the wall of the police holding cells, and conveniently allowing the Kanbu to escape.

He'll come over and join you, while you're also awarded a three-star wanted level.

Grab one of the other parked police vehicles to make your escape. Getting into the Enforcer (swat van) will refill your armor, whereas getting into the police car will give you some shotgun ammo.

You can exit through the gates at the left and right side of the police station, but leaving the way you came in is quicker.

Once you reach the front parking lot, you might want to swap your vehicle for a non-police one as you're required to respray the vehicle, so you'll need to head to the Pay 'n' Spray but remember they won't touch anything too hot.

Either way, make your way North again to the Pay 'n' Spray, right next to where you got the bomb fitted before and if you're still in the police vehicle and have learned the hard way that you can't get it resprayed, steal the nearby Blista in a garage at the bottom of the ramp and get that sprayed instead.

Now that you've lost the cops, it's just the simple task of driving the Kanbu to the Dojo towards the South of Staunton Island. Park up in the blue marker when you arrive.

Cutscene
We watch as the Kanbu exits the vehicle and heads inside the dojo.

Mission Passed!

Post-Mission
Info
The hole you blew in the cop station wall will remain for the rest of the game, along with the blood and footprints.
Hints & Tips
Return to the police station and steal the Enforcer from the back yard so that you can drop it off at the Emergency Vehicle Crane in Portland without needing to steal one from cops with a 4 star wanted level!
