Firefighter
Acquire a Firetruck and extinguish 60 fires across the three islands of GTA 3's Liberty City.
To start the Firefighter missions, you'll need to climb into a Firetruck and press the D-Pad Up button. Firetrucks will permanently spawn outside the fire department on each island, or you can use Molotovs or the Flamethrower and set people and vehicles on fire to cause one to arrive.
The objective of the Firefighter missions is to drive across the city to burning vehicles and use the hose to squirt water and put the fires out. Unlike later games in the series, each 'level' requires a single, stationary, burning vehicle to be extinguished. There are no flaming pedestrians or moving vehicles, just a single car that will spawn on fire.
In order to complete the objective, you'll need to successfully extinguish 20 fires on each island. So that means you'll need to acquire a Firetruck on Portland, Staunton Island and Shoreside Vale and put out the fires on each of the islands.
The game doesn't display a record of how many fires you've put out on each island, just a total, so you should ensure you keep track yourself. It's best to only start the firefighter missions on a different island when you've definitely got 20 on the previous one.
You won't receive any alerts in-game that you've completed the 20 fires on an island. The only notification you'll receive is when 20 fires on all 3 islands have been completed. A pager message will inform you the Flamethrower has been delivered to your safehouses.
Time Limits & Rules
The time will constantly count down, and the time you're given is based on the distance, so you need to speed across town and get to the fires as quickly as possible. Once a fire is extinguished, you'll receive a time boost and another vehicle will spawn elsewhere. The time limits aren't too tight, but you should still aim to get there as quickly as possible. The Firetruck is extremely heavy and can knock most vehicles out of the way.
You'll also fail the mission if you are Wasted, Busted or a burning vehicle is destroyed.
Level Breakdown
Island | Fires | Total Fires |
---|---|---|
Portland | 20 | 20 |
Staunton Island | 20 | 40 |
Shoreside Vale | 20 | 60 |
Tips
The Firetruck has decent speed and handling, and it's extremely heavy so you can smash into almost any other vehicle on the road and knock them out of the way - just be careful not to hit police cars because you can do without the wanted level. Also, be very careful not to crash into the burning vehicles.
You don't need to complete the fires in a row. You simply need to extinguish 20 in total on each island, whether that's 1 at a time, or all 20 in a single run.
Rewards
- After extinguishing 20 fires on each island (60 in total), the Flamethrower will be unlocked and delivered to all three safehouses.
- Cash rewards will increase with each level completed.
You'll usually find a Firetruck outside the fire department on each island.
The Firefighter missions are a requirement towards 100% completion.
