Grand Theft Auto IV was the series' re-introduction into multiplayer since GTA2. The game modes cover the usual deathmatch, capture the flag, and free-for-all types as well as other more GTA related types. Some of the modes are available in a team style of play as opposed to every man for themselves to complete the objective. There are also three cooperative (co-op) modes where you and other players work together against computer opponents.

Party Mode is available which allows you and 7 of your friends to join up and enter matches together. Most modes allow up to 16 players. The co-op modes are 2 to 4. Teams range from 2 to 8.

Ranks

Your online rank is determined by the amount of cash you gain during online matches. Cash can be awarded by killing opponents and/or winning rounds. The ranks are 0 to 10 and pan out as follows:

PC Notes

The PC version of the game has some differences.

• Supports up to 32 players.
• LAN support.
