Phil's Shooting Range

Phil's Shooting Range

Head to Phil's Shooting Range to test out and improve your skills with 5 different weapons in GTA Vice City Stories.

Phil's Shooting Range is unlocked after "Cleaning House", the second story mission in the game. It's found in a warehouse in Viceport right at the South-East end of the Mainland. It's not marked on the map, but when you arrive, you'll see a blue arrow on the door you can walk into to enter.

Inside you'll see a pink marker on the ground. Standing in this will launch the mission.

The game will explain the rules, but essentially you need to hit the targets with a 'target' on them, and avoid the plain white 'hostage' targets with their hands up. Your points will increase by +100 for each target you hit, but you'll be penalized with a -200 point penalty if you accidentally kill a hostage. Missing targets and letting them disappear doesn't cause a penalty.

There are 5 weapon challenges to complete, and you'll need to beat all 5 consecutively to pass the mission.

Hints & Tips
  • If you hold down the L1 button when aiming, your aim will be slower and more precise. This makes it much easier to hit the targets and is recommended for the entire shooting range.
  • Once you reach the target score, you can just wait for the time to run out. Don't lose points by accidentally hitting a hostage.
  • There's no reward for accuracy, so feel free to spray bullets at your leisure, just make sure you don't run out of ammo. Also be aware that reloading can mean you might miss a target or two.

Gun Range Challenges

Round 1: Pistol

The Pistol fires a single shot each time you tap the fire button. There's no need to hold it down, just fire off one shot each time a target is in your crosshair.

Objective

Score at least 1000 points.

Round 2: Machine Pistol

The Micro SMG can be fired in full auto, although you'll need to be careful about hitting a hostage that might be behind a target. It's best to double-tap, or hold for half a second and release to hit the targets. Also try to aim in front of moving targets so they move into your line of fire.

Objective

Score at least 1500 points.

Round 3: Shotgun

The Shotgun fires a wide spread, making it much easier to hit the targets. As long as any part of the crosshair is touching a target, you should be able to take it out. Just be careful you don't accidentally hit a hostage at the same time.

Objective

Score at least 2000 points.

Round 4: Assault Rifle

The Assault Rifle is a lot more zoomed in than the other weapons, which can make it easier to aim in some instances, but also more difficult to move the crosshair quickly. Try to tap the fire button so you only shoot off one round each time, unless there's a moving target, in which case fire a few bullets in full auto so that it moves into your line of fire.

Objective

Score at least 2000 points.

Round 5: Sniper Rifle

The Laser Sniper can be fired in semi-automatic mode, so the quicker you tap shoot, the faster you'll fire - until you have to reload. You can also zoom in with Square and out with X, but being zoomed in too far makes it harder to aim. I'd recommend only zooming in a little bit which will make it easier to take out the targets that are hidden behind hostages but also give you freedom of movement.

Objective

Score at least 2500 points.

Rewards

Once you beat all 5 rounds, you'll earn a $2,500 bonus and receive a permanent 25% discount on all weapons at Ammu-Nation and Stonewall J's!

Phil's Shooting Range must be completed as a requirement towards 100% completion.
