The Sicilian Gambit

Published by Psy

Salvatore wants the mayor drop his charges, but the Sicilians have other plans.

Cutscene
Salvatore is on the phone at his mansion when Toni walks in. They congratulate each other about being "back". Salvatore says they cleaned up with the Forellis, the Sindaccos are in the sea and he's got the Sicilians on the phone wanting peace. Salvatore isn't in the mood for peace unless it's his peace so he told them to go fuck themselves. Toni isn't sure that was the best idea but Salvatore tells him he's the boss now. He wants to see the mayor to see about getting his charges dropped.
Destination City Hall

Once you're in control of Toni, Salvatore will be with you on foot outside of his mansion. You'll need to grab a vehicle and make your way over the Callahan Bridge to Staunton Island.

On the way, you may be attacked by two Sicilian cars, but if you stop your car, they'll get out making it much easier to pop them with a drive-by.

Cross the bridge then head to the City Hall, which is actually the Museum and park up in the yellow marker.

Immediately, Salvatore calls out that the Sicilians are here already. There are four enemies who will appear from between the pillars at the top of the stairs, marked with red arrows, who you need to eliminate. It should only take a few seconds with a submachine gun or assault rifle.

Cutscene
Toni meets Salvatore at the top of the stairs where he's told the mayor isn't there, the Sicilians have taken him already.

You're then told to head for the Pier. There's no rush, so if you need to clear your wanted level first or stock up on weapons and ammo you can feel free.

Make your way down to the port via the road next to the multistory car park, then drive down the dock, under the bridge and stop in the yellow marker.

Cutscene
Two boats speed away from the jetty, one of which contains the mayor.

Toni and Salvatore exit the vehicle and you're told to take out that Sicilian wise-guy standing on the jetty. You can head down the stairs or shoot him from the top, he doesn't pose much threat.

Cutscene
Salvatore and Toni run to a boat and get onboard.

Salvatore's driving while you're tasked with keeping the boat afloat. There's a damage meter displayed on the screen but you're given a Minigun with infinite ammo to even the score. The camera is locked into first person with a crosshair.

Immediately after leaving the jetty, Sicilian boats give chase and attack. They'll keep spawning throughout the boat chase section of the mission so spray your minigun and keep taking them out. They'll appear at all sides but more often than not will be directly beind you. The minigun spits out lead at such a rate that you'll blow up a boat in under a second so just keep spraying away and watch the trail of destruction build.

You'll end up destroying somewhere close to 50 boats during this part of the mission, but because the minigun is so powerful, it's not particularly challenging.

A short time after reaching the coast of Portland, a helicopter fly overhead with armed guards hanging off the side. Salvatore will call out for you to take it down, so spray a few bullets with the Minigin and it should explode and fall into the sea.

You'll then have to fight off many more boats as Salvatore realises their target is trying to take cover at the lighthouse.

Once you eventually reach the lighthouse and see the wooden jetty, ensure you take out the guards at the bottom. Until you do, Salvatore will keep circling the lighthouse and you'll end up having to take out plenty more enemy boats.

Cutscene
Salvatore parks the boat at the jetty and asks "how many bastards are on this rock?" as the camera pans up towards the lighthouse showing a number of Sicilian mobsters armed and waiting.

Make your way up the wooden ramp, but as you reach the half way point, be prepared to turn and face the lighthouse as two Sicilian gangsters will open fire from up the hill with M4 assault rifles. They can take your health down pretty quickly so my advice would be to constantly try to aim while you walk up the ramp and as soon as you start to lock-on, prepare to open fire immediately.

Once the two guys up the hill are taken care of, there's another enemy crouching behind some crates just past a metal fence and sign that says "Danger, Keep Out". This guy can be a bit of a pain as you can't really hit him unless you're standing in the open, and the crates can block your bullets while he has a free shot at you. He can wipe out all of your health and armor in seconds, but he won't move from his position, so as long as you stay behind the fence you're safe.

If you can throw a grenade or possibly use a flame thrower, you should be able to take him out without taking any damage, otherwise the best tactic is to rush him with a submachine gun and blast away from behind the crates. He seems to be armored up as he'll take a lot of damage before going down so don't be shy about spraying loads of bullets into him.

Once he's done with, make your way up the main lighthouse stairs where you'll encounter one more enemy at the top. You can hit him before he can hit you, so lock onto him as soon as you can and take him out. If you're struggling to hit him, try blasting the area near him with a rocket and the explosion should take him down.

Head to the top of the steps and into the yellow marker. Before you enter, switch weapons so you're holding your assault rifle if you have one.

Cutscene
The camera pans down from the lighthouse and see see the mayor being held at gunpoint by Massimo Torini. "It figures" says Salvatore. Torini explains the Sicily never wanted this, but when tribute dried up they had no choice. It was nothing personal. "Nothing personal? After what you put me through! I'm gonna tear your fuckin' heart out!".
Torini makes a run for it as a helicopter appears from below the lighthouse containing armed guards. They open fire as Salvatore and Toni take cover, and Torini gets on board.

Your objective now is to take down Massimo's helicopter. There's body armor and a M4 assault rifle nearby and a damage meter appears on the screen showing the helicopter health.

Usually you'd think a blast with a rocket launcher would be enough to take down a helicopter but it'll take at least 3 direct hits to fill the damage meter and the helicopter moves quite erratically making it very challenging to hit. The best technique, which is hinted by the game anyway, is to use an M4 assault rifle. You'll be able to lock-on to the helicopter and can spray bullets at it without missing. If you switched to your assault rifle before entering the yellow marker, you can immediately lock onto the helicopter as this part of the mission starts and if you blast away, the helicopter can be taken down in a few seconds.

Eventually the helicopter will fly up high, breaking your lock on, but you can switch to manual aim and continue shooting away, or just wait for it to come back down. If you're taking lots of damage, run around the lighthouse to the opposite side of the helicopter for some cover.

Keep firing away and eventually the helicopter damage meter will fill completely.

Cutscene
The helicopter catches fire, spins out of control and eventually explodes before falling into the ocean at the base of the lighthouse. The screen fades to black.
Soon after, we see the mayor being manhandled into Salvatore's office by Toni. Salvatore tells him they just saved him from that bunch of crazed Sicilians. "Yeah thanks" he replies. "And that means..." asks Salvatore, "uh... the city is grateful?" replies the mayor, before being pushed head first into the desk by Toni. "That you work for me, right?" asks Salvatore with a question that isn't really a question. "Oh yeah, that I work for you". After sending the mayor on his merry way Salvatore tells Toni they run things now and he has one small thing he needs Toni to do for him...
We then see an old man sitting on a bench with his walking stick.
Salvatore walks in and says hi to his uncle, asking how he is. His uncle responds that all they really wanted was clarity and asks if Salvatore and the old country are at peace now. "Of course".
The uncle gives Toni a bit of a suspicious look before walking away. "Sneaky little bastard. I wouldn't trust him an inch" Salvatore whispers to Toni as they watch him walk away. "Every dog has his day..." mutters the uncle as he leaves.
Salvatore thanks Toni for helping him clean up and for saving his ass a few times and for being loyal and a good worker. He tells him he's got that half a million he promised Toni. "Half? Woah! I though you said a couple?". Salvatore asks how Toni can put a price on friendship then kisses him on both cheeks. "You're a good kid, but shame on you".
