Grand Theft Auto - General Details

Grand Theft Auto was the first of what would go on to become one of, if not the most famous gaming franchises in the world. It was originally created by DMA Design (now known as Rockstar North) and published by BMG Interactive (Take-Two Interactive).

You play the role of a common criminal doing various missions for crime bosses which can be accessed from payphones scattered across the three play areas - Liberty City, San Andreas and Vice City. The objective is to earn enough points, through performing various criminal tasks in order to pass the level and move onto a different city.

The player does not necessarily have to complete any "missions" in order to complete the game, however more points are awarded through the completion of missions, as opposed to random killing sprees or car crashes.

The game was originally going to be named "Race N Chase".
