GTA Chinatown Wars Now On iPhone & TouchRockstar originally announced the iPhone/iPod Touch version of GTA Chinatown Wars last year, but following the PSP release, no further information was released about the iPhone version leading many of us to wonder what had happened to it.

While I was totally randomly searching for stuff on the iTunes store, I searched for Rockstar Games and found Chinatown Wars for iPhone available from today, Jan 18th, 2010.

Rockstar haven't officially announced this yet as far as I know, and there are no reviews yet for the app, so I presume it's only JUST gone live.

So any of you with iPhones may want to grab it for £5.99 (it's only available in your country after midnight on Jan 18th, so if it's not there yet, you'll have to wait!)

Get it from here: http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/grand-theft...d344186162?mt=8

Here are a bunch of totally random screenshots I've taken from my iPhone...

First impressions:

Control scheme takes quite a bit of getting used to. There's an on-screen analog stick that you've got to move in whatever direction you wish to travel on foot. That's kind of complicated and your thumb takes up like quarter of the screen but after awhile I'd kind of got used to it. When driving there's different buttons that appear and the steering is pretty hard. There are two different buttons, one for left and one for right and it's just awkward trying to keep your fingers out of the way while you're driving at speed.

Definitely takes a bit of getting used to. Personally I think using the accelerometer would have been a better way of moving, but I guess eventually I'll get the hang of it. Not good for your screen though, smearing fingerprints all over it while running around.

Graphics are awesome, looks just like the DS version and loading times are pretty short indeed.

Can't complain for £6 though (presumably that's $10). Just the controls is the main issue but there's not really many other things they could have done I suppose.

I had no problem Driving, the joystick on foot doesn't work for shit imo

Other way around for me. Can use the joystick for walking fine, but the handling on the cars seems too sensitive to me and I constantly end up going too far to the right or too far to the left until I crash. Dunno why they didn't implement accelerometer controls for the iPhone... Hopefully they can add it in a patch, would be so much easier.

I found driving much easier without steering assist. Maybe that's it?

Could be, I'll give it a shot.

The wife just downloaded instruments on her iPod Touch - I'm playing Axel F and Eastenders on the piano. tongue.gif
Now she's reading a review of China Town Wars and keeps raising her eyebrows and nodding in approval. huh.gif

I still don't like the controls. Been reading the app reviews on iTunes and everyone loves it but I really can't be bothered to play it because of the steering =\

I'm getting used to it, I'm just touching the "Analog" when I need to steer and when I go straight forward I don't touch anything.

I also drive slow to get used to the steering, once you get used to it, it's pretty damn awesome. smile.gif

I'll give it a try when I'm on the train today. Are there no some missions which require you to drive fast? Like taxi missions or races?

Don't think so since a lot of missions have a time limit.
The best way to get the hang of is just get a car and start cruising slowly and learn how to take a corner 100%.

Once you get it down at a slow pace you can speed trough everything, it's a little getting used to.

I noticed that I touched the screen with another "piece" of my thumb, so I was like: "I'm not touching here!" but I actually was.

Yeah that's what I keep doing. I think I've taken my thumb off, but it's actually resting slightly on the left arrow so I keep randomly crashing into stuff lol. I might try driving with the analog stick instead of the two arrows and see if that helps, because running around is pretty easy, it's just the driving I don't like.
