Grand Theft Auto 2's Story

The Story of GTA2 is basically the same as the story of GTA1 with the addition of gangs. The player plays the role of Claude Speed, an aspiring thug hoping to make it to the top of the criminal world by completing various missions for gangs, earning respect along the way.

In fact "respect is everything" is a major theme of GTA2, and Rockstar lets you know that right from the start. The game begins with Claude speed receiving a phone call informing him to "remember... respect is everything."

In the GTA2 world, respect is earned by killing gang members to gain the respect of a rival gang. Once you earn the rival gang's respect you can do missions for that gang, unlocking new levels and interactions along the way.
