You have probably read it already, the terrorist that attacked Norway on July 22 with a car bomb and a shooting spree, killing a total of 77 people and wounding about 150 people, have been deemed psychotic and are probably going to spend time in an asylum rather than prison. If he is sentenced to medical care, is is not unlikely that he might be free after 5-7 years, where he will only have to show up at the asylum every day, or a number of times each week.

How is this compared to your country, what would happen to him in your system? Are insane people sentenced to prison just like sane criminals?

What do you think is fair?

I used to think he deserved death, but that was before he was declared insane. I don't think it is right to punish people for being mentally ill, Breivik is "paranoid schizophrenic", and truly believes he is in a war. His head is whack.

But someone have questioned; what is the difference between being politically twisted and insane? Stalin and Hitler and other cruel despots maybe were insane too? But we do hold them accountable for their crimes against humanity, killing millions of people. Maybe the biggest difference between Breivik and such despots is that Breivik did not have the possibility to kill millions.

Timoty McVeigh (unsure of spelling) was maybe insane, and maybe was the Unabomber also insane. Still they was held accountable, and McVeigh was executed, I'm not sure what sentence the Unabomber got, but I think he's either dead or in prison.

America is awesome, but I'm not sure if your system of justice is fair, although I do support capital punishment. I'm just not sure that everyone who get a death sentence truly deserves it.

Pleading insanity is a "get out of death free card". It works when you kill a small amount of people but the amount of people this guy killed would be an automatic death sentence over here. Realistically anyone who goes on a murder spree is insane anyway.

Not sure why that made me lol so hard.

But I am against insanity pleas. A rabid dog isn't going to stop attacking people just because you put him in a kennel and have a chat with him about how what he did was wrong. Mass murder is mass murder, whether you do it because the voices told you to or because you were bored is irrelevant.

Two of the most experienced psychologists talked with Breivik for 36 hours, and they have access to all the interrogation files. Early during their 36 hour talks with Breivik they got a feeling of what his diagnose would be, and at the end of the talks they were absolutely sure of the diagnose (paranoid schizophrenic).

Breivik is not trying to fool anyone by acting insane, if he did I think the very experienced psychologists would see his bluff. Actually it is not in his interest to be declared insane, because that means he risks never being free again, though he might be free after a number of years.
If he is convicted as a (sane) criminal, he can get a maximum sentence of 21 years, and this is what Breivik wants. And since one prison year = 9 months, 21 years equals 15,75 effective years.

Breivik was very offended by the diagnose and the psychologists were added to his death list. In his mind he is sane and a genius and the most perfect knight (amongst other things).

So he is not playing the "get out of trouble free card" by pleading insane, quite the opposite.

Now I think he should be in a high security asylum, not prison. How can anyone support putting insane people in normal prisons? Or to put them in a death row?

I didn't link to anything because you are not likely to read Norwegian, but here is www.newsinenglish.no.

Psychiatric unit has history of escapes
QUOTE
The special psychiatric hospital where confessed terrorist Anders Behring Breivik now seems most likely to be confined has a history of escapes that’s making several politicians and police uneasy. Meanwhile, a former doctor at the Dikemark psychiatric hospital says Breivik could even be legally released after just five to seven years.

‘Breivik can be sent back to prison’
QUOTE
Norway’s worst mass murderer since World War II may still wind up in a high-security prison, despite being declared insane this week by court-appointed psychiatrists. The fate of Anders Behring Breivik has dominated Norwegian media all week, and now one of his main prosecutors seems to be easing public fears that he may some day be set free.
