So I was looking at my join date t'other day (yes it's wrong, my original Duff account was registered on the 28th, with another account registered four days before that), and just had a quick think about just how long I've spent here.

I've just turned 20. When I registered I was 14 and a couple of weeks away from starting studying for my GCSEs. Now I'm in my second year at university with a shitty part time job on the side to fund life. I've been on this site for nearly a third of my life. I dunno about anyone else but that's quite scary, particularly when I think what I did then and what I'm doing now. God knows where I'll be in another six years - still on this site no doubt, just with a lot more money and a nicer car (hopefully...).

I dunno why I made this thread. Just wondering if anyone else has ever thought about how much their life has changed in the time they've been shitting over the boards I guess. Any stories?
ViceMan
Eh, I joined when I was 18, now i'm nearly 23. I had been at my job for 2 years back then, now i've been there for 7. Tempus fugit I guess.

P.S. - Nothing has changed over the five years i've been here, I still sit at the computer day in day out wishing I wasn't the person I am... And they all lived happily ever after, the end.
bOnEs
same place i was at in '08, creating ads for newspapers... i've actually been here since '02... but, my job security seems to be more in jeopardy these days than it was in '08, thanks to the rapidly growing internet...
Marney1
Before I came here I had a life but now I'm just getting it back again, you know actually socialising again. Work has picked up quite a bit lately too so I haven't had much time to play games.

Fuck, how depressing does that sound? tongue.gif
TheAnalogKid2112
Let's see... April of '08. Holy shit I've been here 2 years. That's fucking insane given that I joined solely to find out when GTA IV came out, nothing more.

Hmm.. I was 17 and a month from graduation. My whole life was about to begin. I was working at Papa John's from then until I quit in January.
Well, now I just party and play my drums as much as possible, trying to progress with my band. No, that's not how I want to live forever but I've been constantly trying to get a job for 6 months now with no luck. So... I guess I'll just live it up for now. I'm pretty lucky when it comes to getting free weed and booze. I'm just gonna keep applying and hope for the best.

And no, I still don't regret quitting my job at all. It's been a fun 6 months.

7 years, I believe, almost to the day(?)

That's about Higher (AS level) time, and I'm a qualified doctor now (sort of). Jesus fucking Christ, I've been on and off this site all through med school.

Nearly 5 years. Back then was the closing end of my first year of high school (year 7 here). I now have a little over 3 months till I graduate high school for good...
Massacre
When I joined, I was in high school, and I had ambition. Now, at the age of 21 and alcohol-free, I have all the characteristics of a 60-year-old alcoholic, both in my quality of life and my outlook on said life. Thanks, guys.
TreeFitty
Not much has changed. I'm still me.
Marney1
I'd just like to add that when I joined to ask about a patch release for GTAIV I was straight.......now I like men. What the hell is this cult?
Massacre
How did your wife take the bad news, marn?
Pieface
I was 14, entering Year 9 in High School. Now I've done my GCSE's and A-Levels since then and I'm about to go to Uni after an unplanned Gap Year.

She killed herself by swallowing drain cleaner a few months ago. I really need to change the bedsheets but she's kind of stuck to them now.

Yo, I'll take the whole package for $400.

I agree that I'm sick, but it's working out pretty well for me, so no, I don't need help. You're still my BFF, marney.

I've been here for a while, I'm not exactly sure how long but I know I was in middle school back in Summer of either 2003 or 2004, when I played Vice City and just wanted to join a forum to discuss VC and get hyped for San Andreas.
Now I'm about to start my third year of college ...

I know I went from some lurker who posted rarely/occasionally, then I started just spamming/trolling by posting topic related pictures (in the Asylum of course), then found a niche in the State the Obvious game where I "met" people like Nanook and CowPig and SoW and etc., and I won FML almost one time so I guess I was popular, but then I guess now I've gone back to lurking and posting occasionally.
Darth Sexy
Fuck, reaching 6 years.

Well, then I was a 15 year old High School student with no ambition. Now I'm an almost 21 year old Uni student with no ambition, who spends his time, both at work and uni, making life as uncomfortable as possible for those around him. Honestly, life has turned out pretty damn well.
coreyko_2003
Haha....ha....wow.......I can't believe its been about 6 years for me here...........I signed up when I was about 17/18 and still in high school.....or done with it, I truly forgot.....and now I'm 24 and work as a dishwasher.......xD
ViceMan
Glad to see i'm not the only ambitionless fuckup who has done nothing with their life. It's reassuring in a perverse, sexual way... Like Marney's bedwife exhibition.

Same for me. I was 16-17 and failing high school. Too busy playing GTA Vice City and San Andreas instead of doing my homework! After a few daed-end jobs, i decided to go back to college and study Fine Art for 3 years in order to get to Uni. Now I'm 23, i have a Son and I'm married and i'm At Uni studying 3D Animation and Games Art training to get in to the games industry, or the film industry.
cuda is your boi
lol

I know that I registered when I was in 8th grade, so that means I was... 14? Well fuck, I'm 20 now. Can't say that things changed drastically, I'm now in uni and not much else is going on to be honest.
trathen93
shit..... I was in year 9 anticipating the release of gta 4. I think this website helped me grind down the last few days before gta come out. I'd been coming to the site well before then.

Now ive finished my GCSE's and Im sitting at home doing fuck all til I go to college in September. Ah sleep my friend, we shall spend the next 2 months together in recluse.

Im just waiting for the people from the ps3 DM's to think, fuck, is he really that young? forgive the deep voice, it can be deceptive smile.gif

Club meetings are on Monday afternoons, you know, 'cause we don't have anything else to do. Grab a club t-shirt from the corner. We only have extra small and 5XL, though.

Was 14. Now 20. Just finished my second year of uni. Shitty part-time job. Lots of bumps on the road. Don't really even desire to play video games any more than a month or so. I listen to too much music and buy tons of records.
asthenia
13/14 then, 21 now. Was a slacker in school, left and failed in everything, got a dead end job I did for 2 years, left, stayed jobless for about 8 months, moved back into my parents house, got another dead end job for nearly 2 years, then got offered a job with a Music Library, The Funky Junkies. Now I work from home, and do all the cool shit in the company. I had to take a limited-time paycut from my old job (12500 down to 10000), but with the savings I made leaving there, I'm making more money now than before, and I've got a payrise on the way in Sept/Oct. If you're good at something...

There's something about GTA and being 14 years old :/

Yup, it's a pity I can never relive those days of carefree joy and the then unheard of threat of pedo stalking.

We are the GTA generation, Duff. I'd say look at the new members, like little versions of us, but most of them just take one look at Stoic and leave. And they're not half as cool as us.

When I joined I was annoying you guys. Now, I'm not posting as much, I've been moderating another forum, which is why I haven't posted much recently, but I'm hoping to start posting here again, and not be as annoying.

Signed up in the school library when I was 17, back in ' 04. Graduated, put together a recording studio, and also work full time making about $40k a year. Never come to this forum anymore because 1. I don't play video games anymore. 2. Its dead.

I first joined the site just after the release of Vice City seems forever ago now.
Since then i have completed 2 years of college, three years of uni, worked part time at mcdonalds for three years (Eek!)
got laid off from a landscaping company and now i drive a fork lift full time at a warehouse.
I must say im having a lot more fun driving that forklift and hanging with some of the funniest, greatest blokes ive ever met than i ever did at college and uni laugh.gif

Ive started to lose hair on my head while im rapidly gaining hair on my back which i refuse to shave.
and most importantly im still a huge Grand Theft Auto fan smile.gif

Bloody great to see some of the old faces still making the rounds on the forum.
DuffMan
Kinda weird how this thread attracted some old faces back. Good to see at least a few success stories too I suppose - this site isn't a total omen tongue.gif

Yeah, it is nice hearing from old members. Reunion bash!

Ohh, aren't we witty?

But honestly this site is really interesting and funny, I just have no interest in it anymore. It is still in my bookmarks though, just for the hell of it.

It seems some old faces still stalk us.

We miss you, Styl and thefirm!

And let us spare a moment for those who were not true to us, those who have departed for the hypothetical place known as "real life" - may their souls rest in peace on a bed of flaming spikes while being eternally fisted by satan.

This site is like the cum stain on my shower towel. It's always there, and no matter how hard I try to avoid it, somehow it manages to touch my penis.

Joined about 7 years back...was a commie back then and in school. Have had a few jobs here and there and after a few years I joined the Royal Dutch Marine Corps. Been doing that for a little over 2 years now.
Spoiler

Was I dunno, 14 or so (the magic age it seems) when I joined - since then I've worked a couple jobs and about to start Uni in September after a kinda pointless gap year. This site/forum is really the only one that doesn't seem to change too much which is an awesome thing.

Related to Mello's post... what happend to the dates, they are five months off.. i joined in march, not august...

Ophis-
Not been on these forums for ages!

I joined near the end of 2004, Just finished my GCSE's and started college doing business studies... which I quit.

6 years later I'm a web developer for a private (sub prime) financial lender. (yea, this kind of company caused the global credit crunch. I'm not proud of who I work for!)

As for jobs, I still work at my Dads stables. I'm getting paid about £15k more though. Its all good.

It was a normal winter day for me, as I was still a high school graduate from 2009, doing nothing special, no job and no school as I had not been accepted into any universities. Living home, which I still do, I had plenty of free time so I spend my time playing Grand Theft Auto IV and went for GTA4.tv looking maps for the flying rats and unique jumps. It was then when I noticed the newspost on the frontpage which told Psy had opened up a new site, this time covering all the Grand Theft Auto games. Being a regular visitor on the other two megasites, but not joined before I figured out why not join this new site. Today I'm doing some pratical training for some youth center, where young bums like me try to gain some work experience and get a job or apply into university or polytechnic. I still don't know what my eventual career option will be but I'm interested of the same sort of things as Dupzor or Psy (maybe not as high level stuff as Dupz) and want to become a graphic designer doing websites or something like that.

It's just so damn difficult to get anywhere in this country as you may have heard before that we have a top notch education in Finland and competition is tough. But I guess I'll still have time, being only 20 now. smile.gif

When I originally joined (way back in 2005, I think) I was working part-time at a local supermarket. Since then, I became supervisor in said supermarket, resigned because of all the fucking Polish and found a job as a supervisor at WHSmith, moved in with my girlfriend and had to find another job as a warehouse operative under a John Lewis contract. While living with my girlfriend, we had a baby together but, since then, have splt up and I'm now back living with my parents temporarily while I look for a new job and/or place of my own.
