i m sure many ppl have figured it out that this was a total copy of scarface i mean your at a drug deal and it fucks up and you have to become the new drug ring in vice city. not to metion the mansion wich looks a hell of a lot like tonys mansion and the apartmnt in ocean beach where the blood and chainsaw are in the bathroom. (copy of the deal in scarface where they fuck up and his friend gets sliced with a chainsaw) and the game was set in florida, same as scarface not to mention in the end tommy kills lance and in scarface tony kills manny, and the mansion gets swarmed with guys triing to kill you. even the main characters names tommy tony
Kamahl
yeah, its something between "Scarface", "Miami Vice" and "Carlito's Way"
Flea
and a little bit of goodfellas

no offense, but vice city has been out for a long time, and theres been loads of topics like this, and your just realising Vice City is influenced by scarface now?
Ex-PS Fanboy
Eh, i was bored smile.gif
Douche_Bigalow
Actually, Vice City wasn't exactly a copy of Scarface. R* was heavily influenced by Scarface, which led them to make a cool gangster game like Vice City, with much similarities. And some parts, you can even say they spoofed it!
Ex-PS Fanboy
they spoofed some aspects of it, just like gta III was spoofed in very few ways off of the godfather
Flea
yeah they didnt copy scarface, they never tryed to pretend to anyone that they wernt influenced by scarface, which is why they put alot of obvious things in, like the manshion, the chainsaw in the bath tub etc
Ex-PS Fanboy
ya but i woulda really liked a freedom town somewhere in there
GTA ShutDown
Agreed

Influence only.

I do alot of comparison work in San Andreas, having lived in Los Angeles and San Francisco.
There is literally hundreds of pieces of influence for SA. Hundreds!

For Vice City, a much smaller game, there are still, quite a few.
Mainly from the time period of the '80's, including store fronts,
prices, and of course all the radio references. Music, slang language, the culture, etc.
On the radio alone, there are dozens of 80's technology references.

Even B.J. Thomas, ex-Mambas, who sold Tommy Sunshine Autos, was voiced by Lawrence Taylor,
an NFL star in the 1980's, for the New York Giants....also involved in Coke troubles.

Tommy did not do blow, and he wasn't Cuban, as was Tony Montana.
Although Florida's immigrant Cuban and Haitian population,
play one of the most major roles in the game, in the end.
Terrain: Very well laid out, there's not only a real life Little Havana and Little Haiti, as well as
an Ocean Beach Strip, but one gamer resident of Florida swears she knows the Wahington Mall.

Mansion - Yes. Excellant likeness.
Malibu Club - Oddyssey Room club from Scarface
Apartment 3C - Chainsaw execution, Scarface

Florida Keys - Coke traffic central in the 1980's.
(MANY deals went bad, not just in Scarface)

2 FBI Agents in Cheetah
- Miami Vice TV Series, 1980's.
(You'll need to get 3+ wanted stars to see these funny guys)
Lance Vance voiced by, Miami Vice star Philip Michael Thomas.
The Soire Suit, identical to Sonny Crockett's suits in Miami Vice, hence the no-socks look.
Lance's White Infernus, very similar, again to the Miami Vice vehicles.
Miami Vice was popular due to the Coke traffic in Florida, 1980's.
Tom Sizemore voiced Sonny Forelli - the name Sonny;
Sonny Crockett, Miami Vice, very slim chance there on that one.

^Don't forget the central bad guys of GTA:III - Colombian Cartel,
which pushed literally TONS of blow through the Florida Keys in the 1980's.

Roller Girl - Boogie Nights (Heather Graham)
Avery Carrington - Voiced by Burt Reynolds, star of Boogie Nights
Director Steve Scott - Porn director, like above mentioned Reynolds' character.

Cherry Poppers owner, voiced by 80's music talent Debbie Harry of Blondie.
Blondie is also featured in Vice City radio.

To Kamahl: I don't know "Carlito's Way", can you shed light on the influences?

To Flea: I know "Goodfellas" what a great film! Tons of GTA:III references.
3 decades of Mafia Familia, there's so much in that film that influenced R*.

Tommy Vercetti, voiced by Ray Liotta, featured in Goodfellas!

^GTA-Scarface covers the few Scarface references I mentioned, plus more.
A small page, but I am always surprised when others haven't found it.
It's literally the first listing on a Google search for comparing VC to Scarface.

rocking 2 -apc- 4 ever
All of this is very thorough. Very true though.

P.S. - The Washington mall does exist.

I recomend seeing Carlitos way synch, a really good film, Al Pacino is good in it as always, there's only one big influence i remember from carlitos way thats in Vice City, that is Ken Rosenburg is pretty much exactly the same as the loyer from Carlito's way, i mean its practicly a double, but i havnt seen the film in a while, there could be more, i've just got it on DVD ill go watch it soon actually lol.
