Just doing my morning website searches when I came across this unbelievable news story.

http://kotaku.com/5349341/disney-buys-marv...ne=true&s=x

The first thing I thought about was the Marvel Super Hero Island at Universal Studios in Orlando. Weird to see how that will play out; not to mention the countless other properties; comics, film and videogames... "Marvel vs. Capcom vs. Disney" anyone?

If that allows me to beat the hell out of those annoying Disney characters, I'd love to see that.

I frequent Disney very often. I am sure there is going to MANY, MANY crossovers (sort of like Disney has done with Star Wars) where Disney characters will be dressed as Marvel Superheros to market new rides, toys, etc.

It's pretty crazy. I found another article someone wrote today regarding the brewing Theme Park wars over this acquisition.

QUOTE
What makes this story particularly interesting is that on the other side of town from Disney's theme parks in Orlando, is a theme park owned by Universal…which happens to feature characters licensed from Marvel. So what fate will befall Universal's Islands of Adventure? We find it hard to believe that Universal will gladly hand over a licensing check to Disney for visitors to its own theme park. But would Islands of Adventure maintain its appeal if the roller coasters got a fresh coat of paint and had "generic" themes? And was this a calculated move by Disney to put Universal in its cross-hairs, or just a well-time acquisition of a marketable property?

This is fucking disgusting. I can't believe this shit.

Stan Lee is rolling over in his living grave.

I don't care if Marvel kicks a few million dollars up to them, but if Disney tries to change anything at all about the comics, games, movies, any of it, I'll kill every last one of them. I'm not joking. If I see something as minor as a PG-13 Marvel film becoming PG, I'm strapping on all of my Punisher gear, marching into Disney's headquarters, and slaughtering them all. And their families.

A Kotaku list of "hopefuls" from the recent acquisition.

I don't think they're going to eliminate the Marvel name; it's too profitable. I'm sure Disney is just taking over it and stamping my name at the bottom of everything. I doubt they're going to do those HUGE things. It'll just be Marvel vs. Capcom 3, with the Disney logo on the bottom of the case, etc.

I doubt Disney will really change much at all. In the case of the movies Marvel have been making independantly such as Iron Man, they've been making a boatload of cash and im sure Disney know not to fuck with this for the time being. Paramount is still down as distributing Captain America, The Avengers and a couple of others aswell so for the next 3 to 4 years film wise it wont really be much different.

Every other thing Marvel owns, I don't have a clue - Disney could seriously fuck it up or they could be smart and more or less leave Marvel alone.

I had a great idea! The next Kingdom Hearts game might be pretty good. I'm taking Squall to Madripoor where I can hang with Spidey and... uhh... fuck Mulan.

I'm more curious about this than I am upset. It will be very interesting to watch the transition from a marketing standpoint; but I agree with most posters as Disney is not going to inject it's kiddy-fun-magic into a tried and true franchise.

I'm getting the Mickey Mouse Iron Man figure when it comes out, too.
