So, has anyone kept up with the new game called spore, which is created by the same guy as the sims?
It's basicly a game about life. Put simply, you start off as a simple life form, and you slowly evolve your race untill you are intelligent enough to take over towns. Then when your intellegent enough you will be able to take over the planet. Then when you are intellegent enough you can create a space race, and venture out into the galaxy, and take over other planets. Then when you are intellegent enough you can take over other galaxies? You get the picture right, it sounds huge.

Anyway, they have just brought out a demo called creature creator, where you can make infinite veriations of creature, even on the demo, where you are limited to only a handful of options, you can still make alot from it. I think this game is a brilliant inovation, and very creative, and i will definitly get it when it comes out.

Oh and it's a PC only game at the moment, as far as the demo goes, my old piece of shit pc can run it, so it doesnt need alot of power to run.

If you get the creature creator, post some of you creatures on here, i'll post some later.
DiO
I think Im gonna get it. It really does look good. About time Sid Meier makes a game worth while. And all the other aliens from other planets are actually one that people have created.
DuPz0r
Here is a couple of creatures i've made, kind of random, but cool:

ill DL 2moro and post some cool creatures. i DLd b4 but had 2 delete. most of my creatures were tame looking. good job on spider (i tryed but failed). i would have endless fun just with creature creator without the game.

how do u post a pic of creature anyway

On your keyboard is a button titled: "Prnt Scrn" press it and open MS Paint, edit paste and your entire 'desktop' with open windows and all should have been pasted. Move and crop this image to include only the open window displaying your creature.

A lot easier when you actually do it.

i've been thinking about getting the creature creator but, i've waited 3 years for spore... i think i can wait a couple more months for the full game... cool creatures by the way thumbup.gif... seriously, this is a one-of-a-kind game, will wright is a genius... i've never played a game that gave you this much creativity... and i've never played a game this deep before... it's like 5 games in one...

1. organism stage
2. survival stage
3. tribal stage
4. city stage
5. galaxy stage

... ...wow!!

I couldn't get it to work. It said soemthing about it being only compatible with DirectX9 so I updated my drivers to 10. But it didn't work. My computer is fucking retarted.

I downloaded the demo but it just doesn't seem as versatile as I was expecting it to be. The part limit for creatures is pretty annoying when you're trying to be creative, I want as many spikes on my creature's back as physically possible. Also, I want to customise my creature's personality, right down to the mating call, the way it walks etc. I know I downloaded a demo version of a demo, but at the moment I just feel underwhelmed with it, hopefully the full game will resolve these problems.
bOnEs
yea, the demo of the creature creator doesn't have all the available tools and parts... i think the full version of the creator has all the parts but i could be wrong... and i know you can't customize your mating call or walk... both of those depend on what your creature looks like... bigger stomach probably means deeper voice... beaks are more than likely bird-like calls and etc... and the walk all depends on what your creature looks like... if he has a heavy head, it sways his body back and forth when making turns... multiple legs means more of a spider-like movement and etc...

those two features are all dependent on what creature you can come up with... and i think thats an awesome feature that the game can adapt to what you create, instead of walking by pre-set motions... selecting from a list of movements would really limit your creativity...

not only does the game come with a full creature creator tool but, it comes with a building creator and a vehicle creator as well (not sure if they are separate programs... i think they're built into the game)... this is one of the most creative games ever... everything is fully customizable... literally, just about everything is customizable... hell, even the planets are customizable!!! biggrin.gif...

awsome so theres no point getting the full version yet as it comes with the game. i wonder if your creature starts of basic and u need to add more parts to help them evolve. its cool you can make vehicles as well. this is just the perfect game for PC. Most game play better on console (except strategy) but this just seems right on PC. it must have pretty high system requirements though. i think that the creation tools will be more fun than the game itself.

yea, you have collect "DNA" as they call it to unlock new creature parts... i think it's probably like that throughout the game but i am not sure... i do know it's a very prominent feature early in the game... and not only does DNA unlock new creature parts but, it also begins to unlock new city features and stuff once you reach that stage i believe... i am sure your gonna need enough points to unlock the spaceship, tanks, planes, certain buildings, and probably to unlock the "genesis" missile... what's the genesis missile you say? have you ever seen the star trek movies? it's a terra-forming tool that brings life to a lifeless planet... turning moons into lush vegetative planets...

yea, i think i know too much about this game... i've been reading about it, and listening to podcasts about it for at least 3 years now biggrin.gif...

EDIT: here's a link to the system requirements that are known at this time... not sure if they are official but, i'm 90% certain they are correct...

definatley work on my good PC but ill need to delete some shit on my older laptop and i think it'll run. i take it you can mate for example your creature mates with a completely different creature and the offspring become a varation of both parents. i hope you can have wars like age of empires where you have to built up an army whilst growing your civilazation. itd be cool if you must fight or create and allegence with other civilisations. is it basically like your a godlike head of state, trying to achieve the best for your race?
bOnEs
there is no cross-breeding, lol... only with your own species... unless this is something new they have been holding out on, i don't think it will be an option... plus, you can change your creature every time you unlock a certain amount of DNA too... so, you could sorta cross-breed if you saw a creature with some cool parts that you want for your character...

you can have wars with other species... when you reach the city/civilization stage, other creatures from your home planet will evolve like you and create their own societies... you can be diplomatic and peaceful, or you can wage war on every creature on your planet... but, other societies could decide to go to war with you first as well... either way, there are consequences to your actions... say, this society has a couple of cities and you wipe out one of them with all you got, unaware of their other city... next thing you know, war has begun and your on the menu... and your enemies could have alliances with other species too, bringing you war from other creatures too... which is why it's pry good to make a few friends in space so at least someone has your back biggrin.gif...

and also when traveling thru space, you can make alliances/enemies, even give non-evolved creatures stuff to help evolve into societies... lol, some of those creatures may even worship you as a god for showing them a way to live once you drop back in later on in the game...

lol, what else to you want to know? laugh.gif...

EDIT: yes, you are basically the god of your society... you have all say in what happens to your race...

This game sounds amazing. I just hope my pc can run it, i have a 1.92Ghz AMD proccesser... but the rest of my pc is above requirements.
bOnEs
i just hope my graphics card has that support for pixel shader 2.0... or can have that support... that's why i am thinking of getting the creature creator because, that might have the same specs and would be a good gauge as to if my PC can handle this beast...

and wow, that 6 GB hard drive space is frickin' huge isn't it!?! i might have to uninstall some older games to improve performance...
Indy
Wow I heard about this game about 4 years ago and forgot about it until recently. I was pretty hyped back then, the idea of such a game is brilliant. But recently I haven't taken much consideration into it. I might look at it when it comes out.
DiO
I hope it comes out on console... sad.gif Nothing works on my fucking computer.
shootthebandit
i made this really cool creature. he shoot stuff out his ass that really powerful and he looks cool almost frog-like but stands on hind legs. this creature looks small but hes tough. all those plates on his back boost up his HP and hes got 4 spit weapons on his ass so he has a really powerful range attack. he aslo looks really cool. but i wonder because its so small if itll effect it in the full-game.

ive seen the TV ad. it looks spectacular.

its starts of with a little plankton guy and it says "are you an eater or a retreater?" it shows how he eventually evolves, up to the point in which multiple planets are dominated.

it looks brilliant but as much as id like to get it, i think ill pass. i looks great but sady my hard-drive, my CPU and my graphics card are not good enough. i might get it for familly PC, which is fairly high-spec but its not normally used for gaming.

im just gonna wait for LBP, it looks alot bettter (as far as creation is concerned) it also has MP.

i like to see what you get up to on spore, hopefully you got some intersting creatures, vehicles and planets. looks like a whole lotta fun with hours and hours and hours of replay value.

ENJOY!
PabloHoneyOle
I don't have the time to dedicate to this game, let alone the disk space to run it without it fucking up at some point, I'm sure.

It does look like fun, like all of the old Maxis Sim Games (SimEarth, SimLife, SimCity, SimAnt) all rolled into one.

Incase you can't wait until Friday, here's your fix of SPORN (NSFW?):

ROFLMAO, that is fucking hilarious.

yeah, i agree its to much disk-space and graphic intensity. i would buy if it was PS3.

but then again LBP sounds alot more appealing
bOnEs
i'll be getting it... i didn't wait 3 years for nothing... i installed the creature creator demo a couple weeks ago just to see if my CPU had the capabilities to run the game... i'll gladly sack a bunch of my older games on my computer to make room for this game biggrin.gif...

and if it's running slow ohh well, i'll turn the graphics down... you can always do that with a maxis game to improve performance... and with a game like this, the graphics aren't groundbreaking anyways... the game itself is the groundbreaker biggrin.gif...
PabloHoneyOle
After reading IGN's review, I'm less interested. It really breaks down the facets of the game. I'm sure there is plenty to check out and tons of "neat" things, but as far as a GAME it seems to be a series of minigames.

It'll still be very cool I'm sure. Not hating, maybe I'm just too old to be interested.
Kamahl
it doesnt really interest me... i never understood what was so great
bOnEs
it's not great to you guys because it doesn't appeal to the hardcore gamers... it appeals to the same people that the sim games appeal too... but, being a semi-hardcore gamer (i play games all the time, just not a bunch of different games), it really looks like a lot of fun... i've just read about 3 reviews and they all say it will leave hardcore gamers wanting more... but, someone like me, who loves creating/customizing, this game will log as many hours as the sims did... the shortcomings of a couple life stages are not enough to keep me from playing... to me, all of that hard work and tedious gameplay pays off in the end when i do reach the space stage...

it's just evolutionary with everything the game does that you don't even see... one thing is the entire galaxy is created by everyone... everything you see was created at one point by someone else... hell, someone might nuke the hell out of your planet in their game laugh.gif... and the creation tools are far beyond anything else on the market... it's soo simple you wonder how the hell it wasn't done before... but, all the working parts in the background are super complicated...

leave it to will wright to create something innovative... that man is a genius!! wub.gif...
Kamahl
^i've played the sims, sim city and roller coaster tycoon and liked those games... but this one doesnt interest me

I looked in the shop, you only need a 2ghz CPU, 512mb RAM and pretty much any graphics card made in the past 5 years. So don't worry if you haven't got a very good computer, you'll most likely still be able to run it.

I'll get it next week when i have more fundage in the bankage.

anyone played it yet?, if so whats it like?

it looks undoubtably good but wether its too "childish" or not is what'll clinch it.

i seen a video in-store today, it showed a railway track being built and just some general gameplay.

heres what i think itll be like, correct me if im wrong.

itll be a cross between sims, zoo tycoon, sim city, and AoE.
sims because your controlling the life of a creature, zoo tycoon coz its animally things, sim city coz u control a city and AoE coz u can start wars.

it looks very good and the customisation will be limitless.

im gonna check some reviews

well, i know it's gonna look childish... maxis games always have the cartoonish/childish look and feel... but, with some of creatures, you could pry make one that looks a little scary but, once you see em up close you'll see the cute little eyes and whatnot laugh.gif... there might be some blood in the survival stage but, i would have to expect a childish game to be honest...

Sharpie Fetish
check it out on amazon.com nice rating there the pissed off nerds really got there 2 cents in it has a one star rating

and all because of the DRM it uses it can be installed three times an then its as good as brick
FuddMan
^yeah, they're saying that because of the DRM, it's basically a very expensive rental. What makes it funnier is that pirates managed to release the game on the internet several days before it was due to be released in stores, so the DRM didn't work anyway.

DRM needs to die in video games. Pirates need to run one script to strip the game of the DRM which leaves the legit buyers screwed over. No wonder PC gaming is starting to die off - no problems with DRM on consoles.

I'll be disappointed if the PC version of GTA IV has any kind of DRM on it.
Sharpie Fetish
DRM is bullshit. Its stuff that can be broken in a short amount of time an then used to run your pirated copy in something like 5 seconds! The people coding it spend months for it to be cracked in ridiculously short amounts of time.
DuPz0r
Well i read the reviews and read comment but it didn't put me off getting it. I bought it today and i think its really quite fun.

When you start you have a galaxy with a choice of planets spread out across it to pick.

The first stage when you are in the sea just seems like a bit of PacMan lol but amusing nether the less. But now I'm at the creature stage and I've developed friendships amongst the different species. And I've also extinct a thew of them. The game isn't that in depth as of yet, but this doesn't stop it from being a good game. The most fun i think would be running around the world collecting parts to evolve your creatures and their towns/cites later in the game.

The thing i found pretty impressive as well is that when you start a game, you have the choice to use creatures you've ether downloaded or made yourself as the planets civilization, instead of the default creatures maxis have made. This gives you a lot of variation each time you play on a new planet.

So far, it seems as in-depth as The Sims, which are made by the same developers, so i guess that's the reason XD.png

Anyway, good game if you love to customize things and edit alot. If you like strategy games this may seem a bit watered down for you, so its up to you really.

I'd rate it 8.5/10
bOnEs
well, i don't feel it's as in depth as the sims 2... but, i reached the space stage last night and going through all of the stages of evolution really are for the pay off you get when you reach the space stage... the first time i zoomed out to see the galaxy i was in awe laugh.gif... i am just at a loss of words to describe the space stage... it's very impressive going to other galaxies in search of life... hell, i even visited a couple planets that had no intelligent life but still found other creatures there to abduct... it's all about "spice mining" in space so, i've got a long ways to go... this is definitely the biggest stage in the game... i'd say that this one might take as long as the previous 4 did combined!!

i can't wait to buy some of the weapons, and some of the terra-forming tools too biggrin.gif...

...and yea, my 512 RAM is not enough... even with all the graphics options turned to LOW, the game still runs slow when i am zooming in and out of planets and solar systems... but, i think it's tolerable enough that it's not bothering me really... i'm a pretty patient guy so, waiting a few more seconds is no bother at all biggrin.gif...
