Rockstar Games have updated their Social Club splash website with a new date indicating when you'll be able to pre-register your account. The website was originally unveiled to go live on April 15th, however we now know that the pre-registration will take place from Thursday 17th of April.

If you've been living under a rock for the last month or so, and you're wondering what exactly is R* SC, then here's a few snippets of what we'll be looking at for GTA4:
  • The LCPD Police Blotter will feature a map of Liberty City that tracks the criminal activity of the many players connected to the internet. It will feature information such as the more dangerous areas of town and which weapons are more common the others.
  • The Story Gang will be a leaderboard that will not only show who completed the main story arc of the game first, but also how long it took. People who become a member of this club will receive special online widgets and merit badges.
  • The 100% Club will be extremely popular as it will show who out of the millions of players will reach 100% completion first. The first 10 people to do so will be sent an ultra-rare commemorative 'key to the city' to mark their accomplishment! Later on it will rank members based on who will be able to get to 100% in the shortest amount of time.
  • The Hall of Fame will recognize those elite players who have reached the top of various different statistical leaderboards, and will also contain a personal awards display of awards earned in Social Club competitions and via reaching various in-game achievements.
  • The Liberty City Marathon will be a ranking of special physical milestones achieved in the game, from the number of miles walked, driven, or swam to the number of bullets fired and stunt-jumps jumped. Other events will be added as time goes on.
These are only a small sample of what's to come. In the weeks and months following the release of GTA IV more events, challenges, leaderboards and competitions will be rolled out regularly so there will be much to see and do.

So will it still open on the 15th, but in kind of a 'read-only' mode until the 17th? Or is the 17th the new date for site release?

And so, the stat padder for GTA is born. Who's sole purpose in his life is to make sure he's right at the top of as many leaderboards as possible, thus totally ruining the game completely, yet giving him his internet fandom that he desires so badly.

It's gonna happen, I'm not gonna let these stats ruin the game for me. I'll sign up, but that's about it...

as enticing as the 100% club is, its not enought to make me rish though the game to be part of that 1st million. ill leave that to psy. but this is going to be awesome and i will be pre-registering

same, i got all riled up in cod4 with that shit. then my game stopped working ohmy.gif. im nto saying its bad, but it really makes people be whores.

Some of the stats are easily gonna be abused. Distance covered on foot, especially. Someone's bound to leave their console on all night running around in circles. Some other stuff like races will be good though, the ability to compare your times with other people and see who can pull off the fastest laps.

I'm undecided on whether I'll try to 100% the game as fast as I possibly can. I want to enjoy the experience, but I suppose I'll be playing the game for about 7 straight days, so technically that'll be a few months worth of casual gaming which is probably alright. That's if I don't die first.

i doubt i go for the 100% but i finally get to see how good i really am get ready to get owned world

Have truer words been spoken, I don't think so...

I'll try to avoid it like the clamp.

And it'll probably be someone who really doesn't give a crap about GTA.

I might join the social club. Then again, I probably will just to see whats's happening in there. First to do anything will not be me.

oo, distance on foot whore-age. good idea. cant wait for someone with a 360 to try that and then get the RRoD.

i dont doubt youll play for 7 straight days. i mean..it took you what, 3 days to come up with that gta sa 100% gamesave.
REIDYTHEKING
that sounds amazing because i am going to try and beat all my mates at gta4 i dont think ill do it first thow.
the reason i think ill beat all my mates thow is because there all online addicts and the reason i dont think ill do it first is because i like twokin cars and ramming them into bizy cars whilst getting a chase over a stunt jump.
the best thing ive herd on that ps3 gadgis review is there is unique stunt jumps and that story mode only ends up with 60%

Well, it was pretty much the friday night, all of sat and all of sun to 100% San Andreas on PC, about 40 hours, but I had already finished the game twice on PS2, so I knew what I was doing. GTA4 is going to be a different story, but with 7 days off work to play it, I'm fairly sure I'll be able to get close to finishing it in that time. If I decide to... I'd like to write a guide for the game, which means at least 2 play throughs, and I'll be getting it on PS3 and 360... Perhaps I'll fly through it on PS3, then play through slowly on the 360 and write a guide as I go.

to be honest i don't plan on trying to get 100% as quick as i can, i want to be able to complete the game in my own time, i have other things like school, work and a social life so i won't be on it constantly a lot of time I'll probably spend free roaming to start with and getting a feel for the game then I'll do the missions! i couldn't care less if i was doing well on that rockstar social club it'd be nice if i was near the top but to be honest i'm glad just to be getting the game. it'll be a privilege to play such an immense game. smile.gif

Perhaps we could have our own record book on the site, people submit their records and you can check them on the social club (if possible). It would be good, except those that whore every stat might ruin it. Just a thought.
Eldarto
I hope they have a "Whos died the most times" and "Most mission failures" because i know i will top those 2 leaderboards. biggrin.gif
Ulster_Niko
Round of applause for Mekingtons. Anybody who takes leaderboards seriously cannot properly enjoy the game, surely. i don't even know if I will sign up.
In Kontrol
I'll join for the soul purpose of displaying my stats to other players around the world. I will not cheat or try and get to the top; to me, it's main purpose is to show other players what type of player I am. I.e. if I have a high walk mileage then I like to walk alot etc... cool.gif

one minit i know that this has nothing to do with the current topic but in the brocher for vice city 1 it says 5.2 million people live there so does that mean that if you kill 5.2 million people there will be no one on the streets hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

there should be a "first person to 100% the game without game guides or using online faqs". lol

I will play the game at my own pace. The clan will come after I got a grip on everything in the game first.

I wonder how the servers will hold up?
asthenia
Especially on the PS3... Curious.

im gonna register but im still gunna do the game at my own pace

Why aren't I registered yet? mad.gif This means I won't be able to until about 2200.
