So, I havent had much time to look at the news or other info recently but from what I see in the headlines it seems Raul Castro is doing some shit differently. For example. cell phone use or internet(some shit, I forgot) and now hotel use that was previously reserved for foreigners. What do you all take from this?

I haven't really read anything so it would be cool to know where you read this - I went to Cuba a few months ago and while I think it is a beautiful place and the people are humble and intelligent there are somethings that have to change and I don't think Internet access is the most important thing. Poverty is rife in certain areas and many jobs are undervalued (many bar staff were actually Doctor's/Lawyers but they could earn more on tips). To be fair this won't change much until the embargo is lifted and I cannot see any reason why it should still be there - it clearly isn't hurting the Regime (as soon as you fly into the country you see "Socialism or death" written everywhere) the only things it's hurting now are the people. But I openly admit I know very little on the subject but I'm trying to read a book called Afrocuba which will hopefully explain a little more!

I know what you mean, I mean that's Communism, like China, it's about controlling the media and trying to sway people's impressions. I think people should be free to do what they want and if they want to be a democratic state then fine but I don't think we should say, let's ignore you because your communist and we're not. I mean (and this is not a rhetorical question because I really want to know the answer) why doesn't America stop trade with China? I mean economically it would be the stupidest thing ever obviously but what I mean is what reason do they give now as opposed to the sixties. For all the bad things Fidel has done (jailing Gays etc) surely he's human rights record isn't as bad as China's. It all seems so false.

Because China has fucking crazy resources and markets while Cuba is an island. Which "People's Republic" would you choose? tongue.gif
