Now I've got your attention, this is how the story goes.

I went into Birmingham New Street station yesterday to take a train down to Coventry, and as I passed through the ticket barrier, there was a group of teenagers around what you'd expect the majority of people on this forum would be age-wise. One of them was holding up a sign saying 'DEVIANTART WHERE ARE YOU??'. Well anyway, I hopped on a Pendalino down to Coventry and did some shopping etc. When I returned home in the evening, I logged onto the computer, had a quick Google and found the actual arrangements. It was, believe it or not, a forum meeting (although I figured this out the moment I saw the DeviantArt sign).

So then I was thinking, well what if this could happen to this forum. Unlikely, of course, and I'm not suggesting that we do, but I thought it might make an interesting topic of discussion. The point, by the way, of the meet was officially to visit Cadbury World down the trainline at Bourneville. The train network, I thought, was actually not a bad way of getting people to meet. It's easy, it's direct and it's independant.

So here's the killer question for you: when do you think in a forum's lifetime that it becomes acceptable to actually have a successful face-to-face meet up, and do you reckon that this forum will ever get there?

When you trust them. If a forum meetup for the British members here were to be arranged for next week, say, I would not go. Quite simply because I don't know you all that well. No offense meant to the members here, but I've been on here less than 3 months - a bit too rushed for a meetup.

If there was to be one organised for next year, and if I'm still here, I would love to go. You seem like good guys and all - well, except for the Bad Cops. No names mentioned. They know who they are. But, yeah, it would be cool to meet Psy, Nanook/Phoenix, Fido, Pecnut, Ankh, Redundant, Gnarkill and a few others.
Toge
Would be interesting & cool. Too bad that I live in Finland.

pwn3d.

It kinda worked for the customers of IPS so I don't see why we can't do a forum meet one day. I doubt I would go though...too scared...
Alkaline Sheep

Yeah, the shops in Cov do suck (better than Nuneaton tho), Birmingham Bullring is better.

On topic: It seems a kinda peculiar idea, but I spose it would be kinda interesting to actually meet some of you. We could wear name those trendwhore nametags showing our forum names, rofl.

Yeah, let's meet in Sunderland wink.gif

I was at a forum that did this once (well, lots of times, it's an annual event now) and it worked out fine. Turn out of about 15 people, played pool and went for a few drinks, all well and good. But I don't know if it'd work here, somehow. Personally I couldn't be arsed going further south than Newcastle.

Did Kerryn and Siem ever go on that roadtrip, by the way? Thought not.

Lol, If I came somone would hit me tongue.gif
Yorkshire > Birmingham = Too Far Away
Baldman_Sonetti
I think Glasgow would be the best place to hold it, cos at least three British members live there, plus we have Glasgow Green.
DavidOrtiz34
I live near none of you... I don't know anyone on this forum that lives in Vermont. I'm lonely. All of you guys live like 2 hours from each other. I'm like 6-8 hours away (NY).
Phoenix¨
Somewhere in the middle would be better, equal chance for all to get there

Do it sometime next summer when Catnip/Kerryn is visiting wink.gif

I would probably find a way to go, as it seems an interesting idea
Gnarkill
Yeah. Make it somehwere in the Midlands tongue.gif

Its in the middle, and I live there smile.gif
Jester
midlands is cool.

next summer is cool.
DavidOrtiz34
oh, thats nice. The UK. Thats like 5009787 miles from my house...
Phoenix¨
So organise a US one for you
Baldman_Sonetti
Yeah - Brit's day out. Work it out.

Midlands by the way is the middle of ENGLAND. Not Britain. Let's say that again. Also, England does not = Britain. England = the largest country in Britain, but not britain itself. Fucking Englander's always up themselves.
Phoenix¨
By my thinking Leeds is in the middle, see for yourself

Baldman_Sonetti
I make the middle of the UK to be about 30 miles west of Kendal.
Kronoz
Btw, does anyone want to discuss this on an irc channel, it would be quicker for people to respond and we wouldn't be clogging up here. + more private for people to give details/location etc, try irc.freenode.net #gta-sa, if a mod/admin comes in i'll give them the op status.
Phoenix¨
It is better to discuss most of it here, keeps the idea bumped, allows people who sign on later to see it, and makes people see how many are interested, more likely to see them go

Maybe it is, ok then.
Baldman_Sonetti
I don't have irc.
Kronoz
ok, if we gather where everyone is we can put points on a map and find a central point.
Phoenix¨
Duff, Nanook, Mech in South East around London
Baldman_Sonetti
Baldie, mello, Big Bad John in Glasgow
Pecnut
Pec and Gnarkill in the Midlands

Bear in mind that Birmingham is the centre of all the cross-country train routes.

btw, I probably won't attend anyway.
Phoenix¨
We should do something when we get there, like DeviantArt went to Cadbury's world, we should go to like Lego World or something happy.gif

OK, not lego world, but something, like Alton Towers
Jester
Jester, where Mech is (roughly)

South London to be exact

But if anything were to be planned, it shouldn't be expensive to enter as travelling itself is fairly costly.

Incidentally, I know my way around the Midlands' train lines like the back of my hand, and the British rail system fairly well. A location which is chosen shouldn't be difficult to access. Cadbury World, for example, is a trip into Birmingham New St, then a ten minute train to Bournville and a five minute walk.
Phoenix¨
So where would people like to go if we did meet?
Jester
well i think at first tension could be weird..so something to break the tension...theme park type maybe?
Baldman_Sonetti
Themepark would be cool.
Phoenix¨
Thats why I thought like Alton Towers, or Thorpe Park (nearer for me happy.gif)

Good idea as an ice-breaker, but I don't know any theme parks which are easy to get to.
Kronoz
isn't thorpe park that water thing?
Baldman_Sonetti
Take it pubs are out the question cos not everyone's 18>?
Phoenix¨
Thorpe Park has lots of ride, only a couple are water

If we are to do this, we need to organise so the event can take place in a family-friendly area, but only because we have under-18's in the group. I'll be 18 come April, so I'll be alright, but as from above, you can see that a lot of the members are around the mark of 14-16 year olds.

I therefore agree with Phoenix on his plan to go to Alton Towers. It's friendly, appeals to children and adults, and is just plain uber-awesome.
