damn, i just now got my router working but i had finished playing fallout 3 already, and it was a rental, so i got no trophies and i already took it back to Blockbuster.
(i had rented the game in the first place cause i had no internet so i couldn't play Warhawk or Resistance so i thought i would rent something that i wouldn't need online for)
bOnEs
so, i've been traveling the evil route ever since christmas... when i got that HDTV, i decided to start the game over from the beginning... and wow, it's actually funner to say some mean things to people... some NPC's actually respond more positive when you say something mean too... it's showing me what NPC's are actually a little ruthless laugh.gif... but you still gotta watch out because you can easily pick a fight with someone that way and sometimes the results aren't always what you wanted... like eggin' someone on to fight ya, can cause some friction amongst other characters... i try not to push NPC's to that limit though... but, pushing them a little is what it's all about laugh.gif...

i've also got jericho as a follower right now... i recruited him before the big bang (biggrin.gif)... my black guy is at level 8 now... it wasn't too hard to get him up there this time around... i think i am around the 15 hour mark whereas in my "good" file it took roughly 25 hours to reach that same point... and really, i haven't done a whole lot with missions either... i've done some wasteland survival quests, arefu, reached GNR, finished the power of the atom (evil) quest, and umm... thats about it...

i've been doing a lot of exploring early on so far though... having jericho with me helps push me to areas that i might not otherwise want to explore in depth because he provides very good fire power... it's usually a battle to see who gets the kill/XP (meaning who takes the most health of the enemy)... and right now, his weapons and skills are more powerful than mine... but, i still get my fair share of the action though... it's been fucking fun....

and goddamn, this game is gorgeous in HD!!

sometime in the near future i'll officially have to two files to provide me with an evil and good ending... that's the whole point of me starting over... i want two files ready to tackle the ending biggrin.gif... i didn't wanna beat it and start over because, that probably would of changed the way i played my evil file... especially if i already knew the ending... and with a game this good and this fun to play, there's nothing wrong with prolonging the ending... it's not like i won't ever finish it... i've been playing this game forever, ever since it came out... i've barely touched any of my other games on my shelf... playing online GTAIV is the only other game i play right now...

I'm at GnR atm, but I keep running out of fucking ammo. I'm reaching the conclusion that I suck.

yeah, i kept running out too at first, and when i would watch videos online people would have like hundreds of pieces.
from what i noticed, when i used VATS, and crouched you can kill people alot faster and save some ammo.
FuddMan
Yeah, VATS saves a tonne of ammo if you have a good skill rating for whatever weapon you're using.

Exploring and scavenging.
I don't think I've ever ran out.
Definitely have more than I'll ever use that's for sure.
asthenia
...need .44 ammo >_>
Darth Sexy
I have 400 3mm rounds. Such a shame I don't have a gun to use it. Currently stuck with only laser pistol cells atm. Shit ain't going well.
bOnEs
running out of ammo could be a sign that your not fully exploring your environment, or not using VATS as much as you should... on my second playthrough, ammo isn't even close to an issue... and that includes hooking up my followers with ammo and weapons... and don't expect to have a lot of .44 and .308 ammo early on... that's some of the rarer ammo available... i am saving the sniper and magnum ammo by not even using those weapons... hopefully by the time i reach level 12 or something, i'll of accumulated enough ammo to not have to worry about those either...

if your at the GNR quest, your very close to getting your hands on one of the more powerful small guns in the game... just follow the following mini/side quest here... http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Jiggs%27_Loot... and you'll soon have your hands on the xuanlong assault rifle...
asthenia
You're going to do the GnR quest on your second playthrough? For information on your dad or for
Three Dog's cache?
You're going to do the GnR quest on your second playthrough? For information on your dad or for
Three Dog's cache?
who me? i already completed the GNR quest in my second play-through for neither...
i had already traveled to rivet city and learned about my father but, if i was gonna get the xuanlong rifle again, i was gonna have to go through the tech museum... so i did three dogs quest while i was there... i could done without it really since his weapon cache sucked... but i mainly did that quest for the rifle, and the XP of course
biggrin.gif...

suprisingly, in only a few days since my long post, i've already reached level 11... and i no longer have jericho as a follower... i fired him around level 9 or 10 so i could hire that chick at paradise falls... but, i think i might fire her too here soon so i can go after charon in underworld... at least after all of that, i'll have 3 willing followers to bring with me when i want... i don't count dogmeat since he's not much use... and i can't get the other companions due to my severely "evil" karma... i've done almost nothing but evil deeds... i think the blood ties quest is the only thing i've done that granted positive karma... but, it was either finish the quest positive or finish/screw the quest and murder the entire family... and i already did that in my previous game biggrin.gif...

i am now in a bit of a pickle though... i don't know which path to take in the "tenpenny tower" quest... i know the outcome of all three paths but, i am still having a hard time deciding...
i killed roy philips and his thugs my first time but, i want that ghoul mask and i think the most beneficial way is to help him take over the tower... that way i get the mask but, i also get to loot the stores and the citizens of tenpenny... plus, i want some more tenpenny security combat suits because the sand color looks badass with my sheriff's hat i looted from lucas simms... plus roy just kills everyone anyways
.... nevermind, i think i just made up my mind biggrin.gif... but, i am gonna have to tie up a couple loose ends before i do this like the "strickly business" and "gotta shoot em in the head" quests...

Need bad karma after finishing Blood Ties?

Go back. Kill the Family. Steal everything. Some of the most negative karma in the game.
Don't forget to grab the Vampire's Edge.

Go to the entrance, kill and loot the guard. More bad karma.

Then, go back to Arefu. They should all be pleasantly shooting at you upon arrival.
Take them all out, more negative karma.

I don't think the woman will be baking you any more cookies.
(Tin Can added) XD.png

After I did all the above I was not bad but EVIL, ranked "Scourge of the Earth"....
Darth Sexy
I still haven't done GnR. I went back and have done some side quests. I have enough ammo to get by, but I run out if I go on a long quest. I accept I suck. Also, fuck you combat shotgun, fuck you. It broke on me when I was surrounded by fire ants.

yea, i've had that happen to me before... it was the 10mm SMG in the middle of a building, surrounded by super mutants... i think it was the hotel location for reilly's quest back in my first play... thankfully i had my xuanlong with me... but, my guy was much better and more accurate with the SMG... but, i made it through...

nope... i'm at the lowest level of evil... very evil... i've done enough bad deeds that doing a few good deeds probably won't boost my karma to anything above evil... which is how i want it to be anyways... being evil is fun biggrin.gif... plus, i killed the family in my first game... i am trying to do as many quest as i can with different outcomes...

yuppers... but, they're hard to find... usually super mutant brutes or masters will carry a minigun, chinese assault rifle, or a rocket launcher but, usually in piss-poor condition... meaning, to get the full stopping power, your gonna have to find a few of them and repair one of them with the other two... or, just pay some vendor to repair it for you...

not really... i mean, i am sorta limited when i am talking to people because i am being a total ass to lots of folks but, i am very cautious of who i am an ass towards... some people take it the wrong way and want to kill me... sometimes i have to reload the auto save when something goes terribly wrong but, overall, i am not really having a hard time... and i've killed some good fine folks too but, never someone who offers up quests... sometimes like arufu for instance, i kinda had to be nice in order to accomplish the quest... so, i just pretended my character thought vampirism was fun biggrin.gif... and the quest "big trouble in big town", i might have to do the same... but, i am gonna pretend i am playing a nice guy so i can
bring red back to big town... she's one of the people on the slaver list that you need to put a collar on so, i am gonna play that one out like it was "strictly business" and nothing else... i'm only helping that shit hole of a town because i had some business to take care of with the slavers, and caps to earn
... my guy loves caps laugh.gif...

you can't be evil all the time but, for the most part i am biggrin.gif... and the cool thing is this game is turning out totally different from my other "good" game... i am pretty much traveling in the opposite direction, and doing the quests in a completely different order, with different outcomes... the replayability of this game is super high for me...
Darth Sexy
Hmmm, on the lookout for a minigun now. Also, my retardedness continues. Just got to the Mechanist, and he informs me he ants The AntAgoniser's armour so it can be destroyed. This is fine, except I was overencumbered and dropped it somewhere. Problem is, I have no fucking idea where I dropped it. Yay for me.
FuddMan
Just kill the Mechanist and steal his things. I couldn't be arsed to go back to the lair.
bOnEs
...for the minigun...
if ya got some caps, i'd suggest checking the various merchants across the wasteland... rivet city, megaton, trade caravans outside of megaton, underworld, meresti trainyard (the family), or other places you know of... someone is bound to have one, my best guess would be rivet city... then if ya find another one out in the wasteland, you'll be able to repair the one you purchased to make it better... i think you need to comment on flak or shrapnel's crappy weapon selection in rivet city and they say something about keeping the good stuff in the back... but, now they'll offer to sell you the good stuff they have... but, i am not sure if there's a minigun there... it's worth checking out though... as well as the other vendors in the wasteland...

...superhuman gambit...
if you already took out the antagonizer, then the quest will be completed upon your return to uncle row in canterbury commons... you could pry still head to the mechanists lair, and either kill him or convince him to quit the superhero life... alternatively, i think the mechanist moves one anyways if you've taken care of the antagonizer but, like you said, you might need the suit to initiate that dialog...
TheAnalogKid2112
I got a minigun within my first hour of play. Most outdoor Supermutant Brutes have them.
Darth Sexy
Turns out the suit was in my locker in my Megaton house. I feel a tad silly.

On good karma game, I escorted her to Rivet City but that was it for her,
the mini-quest before killing Dukov for Mr. Crowley.

Interesting detail (good karma) about the Tenpenny Suite, once you unleash Roy
and his ghouls take over the place, you can now access the suite from the back door.
Go around the terrace to the left of where Allistair Tenpenny was, the door is now open.
It's pretty much only good for the free bed and 5 bottles of purified water from Godfrey.
I was really surprised to see that I could enter the "vacant suite". Front door still locked.

I won't be transferring my 20 Bobbleheads there though. laugh.gif

It's a good karma quest. smile.gif

When you enter the tunnels, they are cool to you. Talk to Roy and agree to help him.
Everything they have is red just like the Family, again the most negative karma kills I've seen.
After killing the Family (Blood Ties already successfully completed) it took me like 5 donations
of 100 caps to the church of St. Monica and like 25 bottles of purified water to get 'very good'
level again. I wasn't about to take that risk again with Roy and his crew.

So I was cool to them, but made sure before I opened the basement door, that I had finished
1) Rockopolis (Dashwood)
2) Trading with Commander
3) Bought the Dartgun Schematic
4) Convinced all of the required residents, 100% speech, to let the ghouls move in.
5) "You Gotta Shoot em in the Head" started.....one last guy to fulfill contract.

Then I took out the contract for Mr.Crowley on Alistair. (Good Karma message)
Then ran down and opened the door, and let Roy's boys in.

Roy gave me the ghoul mask, I watched, and I think some of the residents
were waiting to be rescued. Anyone I killed I got a good karma message.
This is probably because you have to convince them as they are a type of racist.

After, Roy told me to chill for awhile....when I came back, lights on, music on,
and the store is now run by Michael, including the Dartgun Schematic.

Got the achievements for "Tenpenny Towers" and "You Gotta Shoot em in the Head"
Still Very Good, Last Savior of Humanity or whatever very good is.

If you looted the place you now have all the keys for the entire place except the suite.
Open the armory, open everything. Go into the vacant suite through the back door, now open.

========================================================

I'm almost ready to start my 3rd game, discovered every location, got all the bobble heads
and achievements, just hanging out waiting for the last mission. Too bad I can't have both
Fawkes and Charon.....bought Charon's contract, but he won't join unless I get rid of
Fawkes. I tried leaving Fawkes with Uncle Ted at the Corvega Factory, hoping that she
and him would make a new generation of "good karma mutants" ...but nope. Guess you
have to actually fire Fawkes to pick up Charon. L0L @ Dogmeat in his room upstairs with
a dogbowl and like 100 pieces of Mole Rat Wonder Meat (courtesy Dr. Ryan Briggs) and
a few dozen Mirelurk Cakes, Hatchling, and Softshell Eggs.

what's that mini-quest? i might of done that when i took over tenpenny tower but, i don't remember what it was... maybe i didn't do that... i did do all the other quests beforehand though to make sure i didn't leave any loose ends untied with tenpenny tower... and i looted the stores before the ghouls moved in... i diplomatically influenced the citizens that tenpenny told me to in order to make 500 caps off of tenpenny, even though i was gonna kill him anyways for "shoot em in the head" quest... but anyways, when convincing the citizens, the shop owners decided to leave the tower, rather than live with the ghouls... then i just followed them out in the wastes and when they got far enough from the tower, i killed them and took their shop keys...

yea, i just reached the part where you recruit fawkes from 87... i am now gonna finish the story on my "good" file... i'm inside raven rock right now... i want to hurry up and beat the game here with my "good" file because, there's no need to wait for me to reach the same point (vault 87) with my evil character so i can watch both endings within a couple days of each other... because, i am having a ton more fun playing my evil file, and i've done a lot more exploring with my evil guy too, but, i am about 6 or so "main" quests away from the end with my evil character... basically, it's gonna take me weeks or more to finish the game with my evil file... so, i might as well see the "good" ending now...
Darth Sexy
Do you find Paradise Falls and Underworld through quests, or do you have to find them by yourself?
bOnEs
paradise falls is found through a quest, although, that quest comes near the end of the game...

underworld can be reached during a quest too... there's a "state of the union" quest that asks you to go to the museum of history, and the ghoul city is located inside the same building...

but, for the most part, i found these places on my own, while exploring... if your eager to see these places, just go there... and considering how late in the game the paradise falls quest is, i'd try to find it myself... just head north of the northwest seneca station (near arefu)... you can't miss it, it has a huge "big boy" like statue that can be seen from a distance...

and underworld might already be on your map... if you did the GNR quest, you probably passed the museum of history... just go inside and go through the skull entrance...

Yeah, I found Underworld about 10 minutes after I posted this.

With the news on the new DLC for the game I decided to re play Fallout 3 over again considering the fact I blazed through it on my first playthrough in only 10 hours skipping nearly every single side quest. This time around I try to make my character as evil as possible doing everything I possibly can to gain bad karma. I also decided to complete majority of the side quests along with the bobble heads. Right now I am up to River City level 6 and doing Stealing the Independence quest.
Darth Sexy
I'm about to save Reilly's Rangers. Useless cunts can't even fight a few Super Mutants.

Once I do the last mission it's back to that save, or start game 3.

yea, i did the "good karma" ending about a week or so ago... i did the same thing too, i have a save file right at the very last chance to save before the end... it's helped me grab a few trophies like the "kill 300 humans" and the "find 100 locations"... and i'll pry use it for a couple other trophies (like the "win 50 speeches trophy) but, as far as i'm concerned i am pretty much done playing my "good karma" file... i am now all about my evil black guy biggrin.gif... this is the file that i am putting a lot TLC into... and this is the file that will hopefully earn me the remaining trophies out there...

but, i see one trophy that might make earning all of them difficult... it's the "hack 50 terminals" one... i checked my stats and i've only hacked 14 on my "near the end" good file, and only 4 on my evil file... this one might take a ton of effort since i suck at hacking... and it's very time-consuming... i might have to go back to some older locations and attempt to hack those terminals because, i am just not seeing many to hack anymore...

i will get the platinum trophy tho... no matter how long it takes smile.gif...

Hacking is easy, just go back to all the Metro, Raider and Military
locations that you missed. Terminals are all over the place and I used to
just hack them for the hell of it, usually deactivating turrets or reading.
Elder Lyons' was easy for the Smuggler's Edge, his personal laser,
another rare weapon. The trick is just back out after 3 tries.
Notice the common letters, it's written down at the bottom right.
I don't know why but I got that achievement early, I just hack everything.
When you first notice you got anything as high as 3/5 letters correct,
look for a similar word that includes those letters. Piece of cake.
I love the ones that are like 10 letters long, it's more of a challenge.

Here's a glitch that will help you get the Speech achievement,
or trophy in your case. If you didn't kill the people in Big Town, saved
Red, and more importantly befriended Bittercup, she will always give
you a gift upon visiting her after mission completion.
Go talk to her first, then go back to talk to Pappy.
You can speech him 100% over and over, for an easy achievement
if your speech stats are low. You ask him if he came here with Bittercup,
or something like that. I used it a few times but not all that much.
Some people exploit this glitch and go there near the beginning of the game,
and say it worked without ever having saved Red or Shorty or the kid
on the gurney who later gives you the lucky 8-ball.
So they get the trophy early. I speeched people through the whole game,
there are more than enough to get the achievement/trophy on a next play
if you don't use the Pappy-Speech glitch. As you speech him, then walk away,
check your stats to see the number of speeches climbing up higher.

they say that glitch was patched up in the latest update... plus, when i go to talk to pappy, i get no such choice to speech him since i have already done so... but, the speech one shouldn't be a problem... i just gotta win about 15 more speeches... plus, i never did the "gotta shoot 'em in the head" quest with my good karma file so, there's about 6 or so right there biggrin.gif...

but those damn terminals... i mean i know how to do it, it's just that most of the time, 3 guesses isn't enough to solve them for me, even the average ones... then i get frustrated that i have to start all over again, and basically just give up... it's pissed me off more than anything else in the game... but alas, i will settle down and try to get it done... it's the only trophy that could keep me from getting platinum...

lol yea... i didn't even bother recruiting him on my evil file... he's no good at all... i guess the only thing he's good at is finding weapons or ammo once you've cleared an area of enemies... but, if you just explored the area yourself, you'd find it all anyways...

my favorite follower is jericho biggrin.gif... he's a pretty good shot with the chinese assault rifle... and i don't have to supply him with anything other than a few stimpacks and a pack of cigarettes laugh.gif... his default weapon does plenty of damage...

EDIT: actually, i did hook em up with a tenpenny security suit... every single follower i have recruited (jericho, clover, charon) all have that suit... since i helped the ghouls take over tenpenny, there's no one else in the game wearing those uniforms... it makes me and gang look unique smile.gif...

EDIT v2: lol, i did the "big trouble in big town" quest last night because, i wanted to enslave red for the slavers... i took her unique red jumpsuit and bandana and now my black guy looks straight up gangsta laugh.gif... i'll be wearing that setup whenever i am out exploring... i used to wear the raider's badland armor with the sheriffs hat but, i like the gangsta look now...

I haven't taken my Tesla armor off in three weeks. Dude come over here, smell inside my suit.. It stinks in here.

Funny - Protector Casdin will buy the Tesla Armor, and immediately
put it on, but won't buy the helmet.
It's like the guy for 'Head of State' immediately puts on
Lincoln's Hat (after saying what a silly hat) once the quest is passed.
When you have the T-51b all the other power armor is kind of a joke.
The Tesla looks the cooler than regular Enclave though, very cool.

Already on level 7 of new game, haven't even started the main quest,
now after 3 games I *finally* get the random alien encounter, and it
FN explodes over the Arlington Monument....surrounded by water.
Not only is the place crawling with Mirelurks, I think the Firelance
is in the water....D'OH! laugh.gif Got 7 of it's 24 alien rounds only so far.
Already went to the other sites, this is the first time I got the random...

bOnEs
yea, i've been waiting for that random encounter too so i can repair my alien blaster... but alas, it's never happened, and my luck is at 10 too, thanks to the lucky shades, the bobblehead and that magic 8 ball... i herd a trick where you can sell it to casdin, then pickpocket it back off of him and it will be fully repaired... i might try that with the alien blaster... wonder if that works with the t-51b armor... ...? but, i could care less about what armor is good or not anymore... i've got so many stimpacks that i could roll into battle with wasteland settler clothes on and still kick ass laugh.gif... that's why i always wear the tenpenny security armor (24DR fully repaired) and out in the wastes, i am now wearing red's jumpsuit (1DR)... i am going more for looks over stopping power these days...

speaking of random encounters, i ran into a friendly giant radscorpion last night... but about 15 seconds after helping him kill off a tiny little ant, he turned on me and it scared the shit out of me!! i wasn't expecting it since he was shown as a friendly on the HUD and his claws were covering his eyes, all huddled next to a broadcast tower shivering in fear... lol, it was funny until he scared the shit outta me...

@synch - hey, speaking of dogmeat up above, you should recruit him and ask him to search for weapons around the monument, provided that you've killed off any threats... that's what he's good at, finding stuff for you... try that out and see if he retrieves the firelance... it's worth a shot... he might not get it if it's in the water but, you never know... he's been known to retrieve items from locked areas too so, maybe water is no different...

lol, i kept the hat... i pair that with the naughty nightwear and my speech is instantly +15 biggrin.gif... no, i haven't maxed out speech on my evil file... i'm gonna leave it 15 points short so i can still have an excuse to talk to people in my PJ's laugh.gif...

BTW, the coolest power armor is the outcast power armor biggrin.gif...

Random alien encounter? I want it.

Edit: Odd. I have had a Firelance since quite early in the game, but I swear I haven't had a random encounter. If only I could remember how I got it.
bOnEs
damn you!! your lucky!! have you found paradise falls yet?

i've had some rather memorable encounters, like running into megaton refugees, watching talon mercs and regulators duke it out, sam warrick, and some guy having a seizure laugh.gif... they keep the game interesting when your exploring the vast wasteland... it keeps it form getting boring out there...

here's some photos i took of my character... goddamn the photos turned out nicely for a TV shot... yet another reason to love HD biggrin.gif...

lucifer (my evil guys name) in tenpenny armor...

-----

wearing red's jumpsuit and bandana... tell me that doesn't look gangsta laugh.gif...

-----

me and my crew (jericho, clover, and lucifer) loitering around the ruins of megaton... not pictured is charon, couldn't get em all at the same time... lol, and jericho is usually smoking a cigarette but, i didn't get that in this shot biggrin.gif...

Nice! thumbup.gif

A couple of friends of mine at my Fallout forum
found one behind Megaton near the hidden Sniper Rifle.
They both said the same thing, just picked it up, no
background noise, or anything like that. After my
first couple of games I started to look around, whenever
hearing explosions in the distance. They were usually
robots or outcast using heavy weapons to blow shit up.

Whenever you hear an explosion - check it out, and hope it's not in water.

This time I actually saw the trail of smoke, heard some
craft going down followed by a very loud shaking explosion,
and the area was littered with the tell-all radiation,
as all the other alien ammo sites have around them.
1-2 rads per second, no big deal but not native to
that area, and the radiation is gone within an hour.

(Except the outcast Fort Independence basement -
that's the only non-irradiated ammo area)

I know about Dogmeat finding ammo but he is also
prone to getting in hooks with Mirelurks, and would just
get killed. I've been diving into the water and scavenging the
area of Arlington Memorial (island) underwater off and on for a few days.
Haven't seen the Firelance yet....but did find a quick way to get
to Rivet City early in the game. Swim/hike from Wilhelm's Wharf
and Arlington, to the west side, over to the Citadel. Then head
for Jefferson Memorial, around the water, swim/run past the mutants,
and you're in Rivet City. Flak n Shrapnel is worth it to get there early.

Side effects - don't meet Dr.Li before doing the main missions,
it prohibits getting the achievement/trophy for the mission with dad.
bOnEs
so long as you completed the first mission you get where you must find clue to your dads location (thru moriarity), you can then proceed to rivet city if your on the GNR quest... which is like the second main quest you get after leaving the vault... three dog's quest will update accordingly...

i just learned a new trick to hacking terminals!! if you scroll thru the symbols, sometimes the marker will select multiple symbols, usually ones beginning and ending in the same symbol... selecting these does two things i've learned so far... some will remove dud words, and others replenish your chances back to 4... i've been knocking out the terminals in my evil file ever since then... i'm up to 15 already, when i was at 4 about a couple days ago... i'm getting this terminal trophy for sure now... sometimes i'll just sit there and keep entering and leaving the terminal after a few guesses meaning, selecting random words... sometimes that's faster than trying to solve the puzzle biggrin.gif...

haha, finished tranquility lane on my evil file last night... i impressed braun with my go-getter attitude towards his little games he plays... i knew it was gonna be more enjoyable as an evil guy biggrin.gif...

lol, i've just recently join the fallout wikia site... i'm editing articles with useful information i've uncovered over the course of the game, that no one else has stated, like the main benefit of buffout IMO... this is kinda fun laugh.gif...
