Nanook

I will be using Adobe Photoshop CS2, but any Photoshop should be able to do it, and if you know PSP then you should be able to translate to your program.

Step 1
File -> New
Enter in the size of your sig, needs to be quite big, but not too big so it breaks the board rules wink.gif
The important part is make sure Background Contents = Transparent

Screenshot Step 1

Step 2
Click the Text Tool and drag out a text area, into this type your text. Make it a large font and choose a thick font like Arial Black so you can see more of the image.
Press V to get the move tool to position the text where you want it. If you increase the text size and you can't see it anymore, decrease the text size and expand the text area, then re-increase the size.
It does not matter what colour the text is

Screenshot Step 2

Step 3
Hold Control and click on the Layer Icon screenshot. This should select your text. As show in the screenshot below.

user posted image

If it hasn't try again, make sure you click the layer icon whilst holding control.

Step 4
Find the image you want to use inside the text.

I will be using this one

Copy the image

Go back to your image and make sure the text is still selected. Go to
Edit -> Paste Into screenshot

You should get something like this

Step 5
Press V to move the pasted image to where you like it. Press CTRL + T to transform the image to fit. Once you have it positioned you should get something like.

user posted image

Yours should be better if you chose a better image

Step 6
Apply effects to the layers as you choose until you get an image you like, such as strokes, bevels etc.

Step 7
Press CTRL+SHIFT+E to merge all the layers into one.
Press V to move the image to somewhere with lots of room underneath for the reflection.
Now Right Click, Duplicate Layer, OK.
Then go to Edit -> Transform -> Flip Vertical
Press V to move the reflection to where you want it.

Step 8
On the reflection layer set the Opacity to a low number, I use 35%
Then go to Layer -> (Add) Layer Mask -> Reveal All
Press G to choose the gradient tool and make sure it is a linear gradient. The drag from half way down the layer to the bottom and let go.

When you have something you like go to
File -> Save As and make sure you use either GIF or PNG to preserve the transparency.

And there you go

This shows you the sort of stuff you can make using this technique

Nice detailed tutorial Nanners. thumbup1.gif

Everything is proper, if followed things shouldnt be messed up. Just remember to press d to reset colours and choose the right gradient (white to transparent) when doing the gradient for the reflection.

Also, you didnt say what gradient colouring to use. Like is it white to transparent or not? I dunno, i got something nice up until the gradient thing. v_v

Not really, look i can prove it.

Image saved as .gif

Image saved as .png

Same quality, lower filesize for .gif. Basically when saving a .gif use ''save for web'' and make sure that 256 colour is being used, then quality will always stay there, plus the filesize is lower.

Very nice tut. I had a go and the results aren't too bad:

I tried to have another go using a picture of a Dodge Viper in the BG.
And I had the same problem as MR BLUE this time round. The gradient tool kept messing up and wouldn't make it transparent, instead it would just cut a chunk of off the layer.
I'm pretty miffed.

EDIT It's the one in my current, I thought balls to the reflection, and quite like how it is now. smile.gif

This is what it looks like. The text characters are all individually selected and all, but once I copy the image, the 'Paste Into' thing is still unclickable. I'm using Elements 2.0 for Mac.

I can't seem to select the text. When I should click the layer Icon and all, I hold control, click, but it doesn't select it. I use PS 7.0. Plz help.
