the missions suck the story line sucks there isnt much to do atall! the vechicels are crap no motorbikes this game just cant compare to GTA San Andreas or even GTA Vice City! what do you think?
pos
very good point

you have to remember though, that gta3 was the very beginning of the GTA evolution. It was the first 3D fully rendered version of grand theft auto, and Rockstar had probably not have even begun to think about adding the features we see in SanAndreas.

I can completely agree with you though, GTA3 has absolutely no replay value, as there is nothing to do other than drive around and cause mayhem, however, I believe that Liberty City is the best developped city as of yet.

Nah, i still think GTA3 is a wicked game. Without it we wouldnt have VC or SA, and now you say you hate it??
Mighty Fists
well I had san andreas before gta 3... I guess if you got gta 3 before vice city and san andreas then you would off thought it was a great game but for me I just think saying it is better than san andreas is kinda dumb, becasue san andreas offers much more than gta 3.

Yes, you got it. I still think Gta III is a great game. Just the storyline, characters, music... Something 'magical' about it.

SA > GTAIII > VC

GTA3 is a great game. Just because it lacks some of the features of the newer GTA games it doesn't mean it's bad.
Psy
GTA3 was by far better than GTA VC, and with the addition of bikes and planes as well as maybe a slightly bigger map and more missions, it would be better than SA IMO.
E.C.
You cant compare gta III to vc or sa, gta III came before those 2
benburch
VC and SA are still way better than gta3, but GTA3 was the most improved GTA of the whole series, thats why it got such great reviews. Plus it is pretty awesome.
Corkyboy
Just out of interest Mightyfists, why do you think the storyline and missions "suck"?
There was fuck all wrong with either IMO!!!

Yeah, I actually think that Gta III had better storyline than SanAndreas.

I don't think it had a better story then SA or VC, i never really understood the story yu just played some guy out of jail doing missions for random people.

While robbing a bank, you are betrayed by Catatlina, your Girlfriend
because she wants to keep all the money she collected from the bank. So
she shoots you along with her other friends and leaves you near dead in
the gutter. You are found and arrested and taken to Staunton Jail. While
you and afew other people were being transported to Portland, but the
Colombian Cartel show up, to rescue one of their own friends, being held
in jail (Not you!). They stop the Convoy and put a timer to blow up the
bridge. You and 8-ball are also kind-of-rescued. So you escape.

8-Ball directs you to a hideout, where you can save you game and then
leads you to a Mafia boss, Luigi. He helps you get your career back on
track, by doing legal and illegal stuff. Then you meet Joey Leone, a
crime boss for the mafia. You meet him theough driving Misty. You then
meet Toni Cipriani who hates the Triads, then Salvatore calls a metting,
and wants to meet all the Mafia bosses, and because you are so good, you
are appointed driver.

You then get to meet Salvatore leone, the king of the Leone Family
Mafia. he gives you tough missions that will test if you are really
good. You take maria out on a mission, and she tells Salvatore that you
two are like an Item, which gets Salvaotre mad. Salvatore is going to
set you up because of this and also because he wants to make a deal with
the Cartel. Maria pages you and you take a boat to Staunton with her,
Maria and you in it.

You meet your first crime boss for the Yakuza. Her name is Azuka. You
kill the boss of the Mafia and several spies as well. You then meet
Kenji, Asuka's brother. Then you start to work for him as well as Asuka.
Asuka then gives you a mission to give payment to a crooked cop, then
you meet him and start working for him as well as Asuka and Kenji.
Through Ray you meet another character, Donald Love. He wants you
eliminate Kenji of the Yakuza, so you do that, thus killing Asuka's
brother.

Shoreside finally becomes unlocked, and you do a mission for Donald with
some package that he needs to get. The trail leeds to Fort Stunton
construction site. You take the lift up there, and you find Catalina and
Miguel. They have the package. Miguel wants to give you the package but
Catalina doesn't want that. Instead she shoots Miguel and then jumps
down into Cardboard boxes. Suddenly Asuka appears, and says that Miguel
killed her Brother (Because you killed Kenji with a Cartel car, but we
all know the truth:). Asuka gets information from Miguel by torturing
him. Then Maria shows up.

One of the missions you get from Asuka is one where poison is being
transported in by plane. You have to destroy the plane. So you do that.
Then you take the posion, and you have to take it back to the
construction site. When you take the tower up, you notice Miguel and
Asuka dead, and Maria missing. there is a note that says bring 1/2
million dollars to the big mansion.

When you do that, Catalina betrays you and orders her guards to kill
you. You punch out the guard, take his weapon then you escape. You
follow Catalina's helecopter to the dam, then you shoot it down once
Maria is out. Catalina dies. You then shoot the guards by Maria and you
finish the game. But in a twist at the end, Maria starts complaining
about her hair and nails, so your character really doesn't take that
crap and turns around and shoots Maria.

He shoots Maria?! I thought it was supposed to be a weird sort of 'fairytale' ending.

IMO Gta 3 is better than VC but SA is better than both.
Snake
Meh..at the time GTA3 came out...this was "new" never could you do so many things in one game..so even if its not as good as vice or SA..the game is still badass.Kind of stupid...when ever the next GTA comes out...your going hear..."Oooo this game is so much better then SA" kind of stupid....there all good.

gta3 1999>gta-sa 2004
Well if you think about it, they havn't done that much to the game since gta3, and thats 5 years...
they added more land, more vehciles and submissions.
But the graphics havn't been changed extreamly.
I think gta3 is the best ps2 game ever!
Passionate Homo Sapiens Ingester
I agree with Psy, if GTAIII was a bit bigger, and had bikes and chopeprs it'd be the best. If they had 3 months more they would have put in proper flight and bikes, and probably more land space, or so the Housers say. In other words, had they not been rushed they could have made the best GTA ever - in 1999.
The Black Rider
no youre right it cant compare because theres not enough to do in the game.
The Demon
I'd say Liberty is the best, and I think Fido is the best charecter better then Tommy and C.J. I realy like tommy but I like that Fido is a no talking ruthless killer who doesnt care aout anyone and would do anything for money and go to no exctend for revenge. And I think C.J is a wanna be gangster with a lot of manners such as "Thanks" "Thank You" and "No Thank You" and along with his nicness he didnt even shoot officer Tennpenny wich Fido would have shot him and prolly sweet also for trying to stop him. And even if C.J is "sposable a gangster" He Owns Bussiness, sells cars, owns Realestate, Flys Airplanes and Drives Boats.....If you were to ask me i'd say C.J isnt much of a gangster at all.
ctm
gta3 was better then vice city because of the intensity. after playing vice city i went back to gta3 and it was so much more intense.
Tonedogg
What I prefer about gta3 over all others is rampaging against the cops.
Everyone had to act all big and say "cops are too easy, dude" which made rockstar go somewhat insane in that area. In vc and even more so in SA the cops are just unrealistically savage.
Bin laden and saddam hussein would have both been slaughtered in a shower of thousands and thousands of bullets years ago if there was any realism in what the authorities have become in gta games.
There's just a really pleasurable arcadey feel to evading police in gta3, still somewhat challenging but a tonne of fun and you can really refine your skill and put on a good show.

I know everyone's going to say it's "still easy in vc and sa" and probably even request rockstar make them harder again, but I really feel all this is bravado more than them seriously being dissatisfied by the challenge.
It's not a matter of me not being good enough, it's just that it's harrowing and not fun, it doesn't really matter how good you are, unless you do something gay like hide in a special area or something they'll screw you fast.
And thats not fun.

I found VC hugely dissappointing after all the hype, there were some positive but alot of negative, which may have even outweighed the positives and I might agree with those here that rate it below gta 3.
San andreas was different, it's a huge step up. Still the cops suck, but there's so much more to the game. GTA3 kind of revolved around cop evading, that was THE fun thing to do in the game once you finished.

I definately think cj is the coolest character. I wasn't too hyped on the gang banger thing when I heard it but it panned out good.
I thought cj sucked at first but it was kind of appropriate, he had no respect and was a bit of a wuss, as the game goes on he gets cooler.
Still, I agree, especially in the story, he doesn't seem hardcore enough.
But he says cool things on the street which sound cold and awesome.
Mute guy was lame, sometimes it really stuck out as stupid that he didn't speak.
His animation/movement was great though. Probably the best throwing motion, and the best kick-while-down.
Tommy vercetti was ok, I love ray liotta, but he looked fruity with his hawaiin shirt, and although it could be changed it seemed to always end up being back in his lame outfit.
The general 80s cheese factor was cool at first but got old fast.
Having full control over cjs look makes a huge difference.

I'm going to start a serious movement to try and get clint eastwood to be the next gta character. That would be unbelievably great.

I'm also going to try to explain this phenomenon to rockstar of no one being able to admit the police have gotten too hard.
They're just doing what we tell them, the problem is everyone has to be great and say how easy they find the cops.
Like I said it's gotten to a point where it's just unrealistic.
Specifically the shooting, there's too many bullets flying towards you from too many angles once you get to even 4 stars, IMHO
Gta3 owned all in the stars department, and they should try to recapture what was so great about this side of things in gta3.
Piranha
I really think GTA III is a bit boring. I love all 3 games, but i think Fido should talk! i mean, come on!

There is really nothing to do outside of storyline, i'm just flying through the missions as we speak. (Never finished III before i jumped into VC and SA)

It is cool to work for the mob, but story jumps all over the place. Work for this family, next thing you're killing them, then for Asians, then you kill them...etc.

SA is amazing. Talk about freedom. It's just plain beautiful! So many new elements that they will even make better next installment.

And just the fact they recreated Las Vegas almost PERFECTLY blows me away. Just with they had more missions, and options in LV. Being able to own the whole strip, or buy all the casino's and really get into that aspect of the game.

Everything, imo is just awesome in SA, the best of all III combined! thumbup.gif
Young Escobar
GTA 3 owns all IMO. The others were just add ons (in the 3D area) and in cases like these you can never come close to the original.

VC was cool i suppose I can play it more than I do sanandreas. I thought SA was the keast entertaining of the three after a few completions of the game.

I still like the LS story. BUt a bit after that it gets a bit fucked. When CJ gets sent to the country side. I thought that threw the whole fucking story off.

And the SF and LV parts were not entertaining. SA is more like a temporary entertainment game to me.

I really dont think GTA 3 needs helicopters motor bikes n shit to be better than SA. Seeing GTA 3 is already better than SA IMO.

clowns789
Look at the first two here.

Look at the second one. Tell me if you agree or not, but I think it is the biggest improvement from one game in a series to the next in video game history.

San Andreas is INSANE! No other game has ever come out on a console that gives you so much freedom. The storyline is a bit jumpy, and VC has a great storyline (although it is a blanent rip off of Scarface) but SA is original, and HUGE. I think its by far the best.

Playing III right now, and i'm just bored. Nothing but story missions to do. Camera angles are killing me. Weak cars, kinda lame scenery and area's to explore. Can't enter buildings, or change outfits. Its just to linear for me.

You have to understand though, that that is all Rockstar thought of then. They had nothing to base the game off of at the time. They didn't get ideas from anything because GTA: III was not an improvement like GTA: VC or GTA: SA, it was original. When it was GTA: III against the world and I had not bought VC yet, GTA: III was the greatest thing since the internal combustion engine, and that is how most people felt. The storyline is the best of all of the GTA's so far, and as you can see a lot of people think so. They were just tinkering around with the power of the PS2 and when they found out what it could do, they pulled a GTA: SA with 6 times the size of GTA: III or VC. Anyone that has played GTA: III for ever and played SA or even VC for just a bit will think then that GTA: III is boring because they know what is missing.

Very true. I guess it is very tough to judge. I did play III before VC or SA, but never made it out of Portland. Now after completing VC and SA i went back, and am just about to finish III. Then hit up VC again, and lastly one last go round through SA. But nothing comes close to SA. It is just amazing.

I think VC has the best storyline. SA and III are so all over the place. SA would have been awesome, but it just took so many left turns. One thing is for sure, the voice overs and Cutscenes are some of the best out there. Total quality all across the board.

Hope R* continues, or is able to pump out more GTA's. Im freakin hooked, and haven't played another game other then a GTA for well over 2 months!! blink.gif

gta 3 rocks! it might not have motorbikes and planes but it is soo cool. the storyline is WAY WAY WAY better than vice city and i wud say its nearly as good as san andreas. i think the next game should be return to liberty city with fido agen but this time yer we can hav motobikes and planes and skateboards!!

Actually no. I played III first, but didn't make it out of Portland. (Just recently went back and finished III this week.) i just thought there were a lot of quirky camera issues, and i wasn't floored by it as i was when i played VC next, then my jaw was on the floor for 2 months when SA hit.

I just think III was all over the place. Work for htis guy, kill him, move on, work for another guy, kill him. Really made no sense to me. Ending was "ok", and i was bored to death with the side missions.

VC is fun, fast, so many new elements and i love changing clothes, and having so many options. It is a bit small though.

and SA well, it speaks for itself. Its huge, options, good storyline, (again, a bit all over the place, but i loved it), RPG elements, great planes, heli's, cars, modding....i won't bore u, u know. Gameplay is 2nd to NONE!

My ratings....

GTA:III - 8/10
GTA:VC - 9/10
GRA:SA - 9.5/10

I don't completely agree with the opinion of this topic.

I personally thought that Grand Theft Auto 3, while not havving the added features of motorcycles, new guns, clothes, girlfriends, and a huge map, I still like something about it.

I like the atmosphere of GTA: 3, it was... unique. I enjoyed how they kept the time in the modern day setting. Once they made Vice City in the 80's, its almost like Rockstar just came up with ideas and wanted too make it look like there was a huge story behind GTA: 3. Then San Andreas came out, and that was in the 90's... I like San Andreas for all of the features... I just don't like the fact they keep backing out of the modern day setting. Humans like to re-live the past way too much.

Ehh... remember... thats my opinion.

I agree with you in a way, but they had to make the storyline somehow involving all three, and storylines don't happen in one consecutive time...

Anyway, I hope the next GTA is also modern, because a lot has changed since 2000, and the next GTA will come out in 2006, so that's more change. And I'm kinda sick of driving new, old cars. Like in Vice City, most of the cars were new in the year the game took place (1986), but they looked stupid because they are old to us.

I also want a complete revamp of GTA: III, the same game, but with the graphics engine of GTA: SA, and all of SA's features, but the asset buying system of Vice City (where you buy the asset and do it's missions, unlike SA where you just dive into the [rather boring] asset missions without purchasing the property.), and the airport must be enterable. And it should be more modern and have real music and Vice City's and San Andreas' weapons. Full flight and SA's array of aircraft. You still can't swim, because the story doesn't fit any other way of keeping you away from the other islands. Same story. Same city. All the stuff that Vice City and San Andreas have to offer. Hell yeah.
Piranha
That would be sweet. Considering that they were just tapping into the power of the ps2, 3 is pretty dang good! It would be sweet to have better graphics, and draw distances. And def. the added features of SA and VC.

I think its cool how they went back to the 80's and 90's. I love all types of music, so it suits me well. 80's music, while so cheesy, is fun to me. Open tha mind up people! wink.gif

SA is just so incredilbe with everything that is avail. Its something for everyone. And thats what we want in games. Freedom to play at our own pace.

I also just love "The Strip"! I can't believe what an awesome job they did on recreating Vegas! And the Hoover Dam, i mean, IT'S PERFECT! They really pay attention to detail, and it shows.

Quality on all fronts. The extras, missions, cut scenes and voice overs are the best out there!

Money!

I agree, I hated how you couldn't buy assets like vice city in San Andreas and I think its time to do another modern GTA. I think you should be still able to swim, but they completely put boundaries around the island so you can't get to the next island.

Vice City was the first GTA game I played. I loved it - it replaced Doom as my all-time favorite game.

Then I got GTA III and was a bit disappointed at first. But as I got into it, I found the city a lot more real than Vice City.

I hated how the gangs always knew it was you in the car - even when driving an ambulance with the siren going. That was $#^@ stupid.

But the cars handle like shit in GTA III compared to VC.

San Andreas is a lot bigger than the other 2 and it is cool to finish everything, but it doesn't have any re-play value once you finish the missions. I'll start San Andreas from the beginning again soon, but in Vice City, it seemed like you could keep playing and playing even after getting 100%.

GTA3 was an ok game but too confusing. I would be driving alongside the road and my car would blow up, no cheats btw. I never even understood what was going on!
Young Escobar
Those who say GTA 3 not havin those "features", 2001 stuff is not like 04 shit, Get over it. GTA 3 is classic. Like old rap beats are not like todays. GTA 3 isnt like SA. So the feature thing for later GTA's is not really needed.

BTW rofl@ I was pissed when you couldnt buy assets like in VC,

Thats what happens when you play a later GTA first

the missions suck the story line sucks there isnt much to do atall! the vechicels are crap no motorbikes this game just cant compare to GTA San Andreas or even GTA Vice City! what do you think?

The reason being that the cars were suck (in ure opinion) is that GTA 3 was made before VC and SA, and even Dan Houser stated in a magazine article tht GTA 3 was their first 3D attempt, and they were racing for a deadline.

Anyways I think GTA 3 is the best GTA ever made, then VC then SA.

You were probably driving through Saint Marks after you left Portland. Two shots with a shotgun and your car blows up. Damn the Mafia and the shotguns ! sad.gif

Can everyone possibly stop comparing games made in 2001 on a par with those made in 2004. With twice the production money. and more staff to make it, with more experience. Come on, it's not fair. GTAIII was so innovative >_>

Its a matter of opinion. One thing is for sure, all 3 games are innovative in each installment. And they are ALL great games!

I perfer SA, then VC, then III. Just love the 80's feel to VC, missions are fun, and real flashy. Felt very confused in III, and i work for someone, then kill him, work for next guy, then kill. Rinse and repeat! wink.gif
To all over the place for me. Camera angles were lame for me also.

SA owns, rightfully so, with the updated technology!

This game was cool it had it 's up's and down's i mean you can't jump out of cars that sucked but it had a good story line had pretty good cars the gangs were pretty cool.. the missions were really cool.. Now i liked GTA Vice City when it came out but then GTA SA came out i played it i mean i beat all them but GTA SA is my fav and GTA 3 is my second fav and yeah its a classic.
