Hi there
For those that played Driv3r, does anyone here think the now long gone Driv3r game had one of the best car crash effects on the PS2 and even the Xbox consoles? There was Burnout 3, though I never did play it. The game was a flop, but does have some praise, if only a little. I think far too many got worked up about it not being like GTA. But that's history now. Anyone here can think of any games that had good destructable physics? vehicle only ones? -------------------- President lamar's attack on the cherokee Indian tribe in Texas in 1839 was a stupid mistake, but distrust and violence existed on both sides. Driving physics - No. The best physics I've seen on cars in a free-roam game is GTA IV. Not perfect, but oh so fun and close enough to the real thing.
As for the damage models, DRIV3R is still at the top spot for me. Not because they were the best, but because watching a car explode was so spectacular! You can do some really cool things in GTA IV with your car, but the things I did to cars in DRIV3R were amazing. -------------------- |

What you've said about Driv3r is true, but the new GTA is new generation technology, Driv3r was released when PS3 was still on the drawing board.

Burnout has always been the king of crash physics. Burnout paradise though on modern gen gaming platforms still has the best.
Driv3r had ok crash physics at the time but until i see the new driver game i still say burnout paradise. -------------------- |

Burnouts crashes aren't exactly realistic...

I see what you're getting at. The cars were always too light in burnout causing crazy spins and bounces. But the damage models were epic and the way the models interacted on impact were amazing.

That is what i focused more on was the realism of Driv3r's vehicle model crash physics, than say Burnout.
I am considering to get Burnout 3 Takedown, on the xbox. I originally played Burnout on the PS2, but I never kept with the follow ups. -------------------- President lamar's attack on the cherokee Indian tribe in Texas in 1839 was a stupid mistake, but distrust and violence existed on both sides. The dream combo would be the damage model/crash physics of Burnout, the open-worlds featured in Grand Theft Auto IV, the variety of features of Red Dead Redemption and the craziness of Saints Row 2. Would be awesome.

I'd never seen anything from Driv3r before, and after watching this I don't see what's so good about it. Cars bouncing all over the place like they're made of rubber doesn't satisfy my urge to play a realistic driving game.
That said though, it's a major improvement on the original Driver. I downloaded this from the PSN Store thinking I'd love it having played it to death when it first came out. It was a brilliant game for its day but playing it now burns my head out, the crashes where unbelievably shite - not to mention the crash sound effects. I'm sure Driv3r is fun though. Jesus those driver 1 crashes were epicly crap i'm sure there was just one sound effect for all crashes too - a recording of a bag of spanners being being dropped through a skylight. Reminds me of this too... This post has been edited by Marney1: Feb 6 2011, 04:58 PM |
