I want to buy a 50" TV for my PS3 and although I'm impressed with the LCD TV I've got I'd like to know what you guys think is best (and why).

Most Plasmas have a screen burn protection feature built into them now. I have a Samsung and have yet to have any trouble with this, but then it only seems to be a problem if the image on the screen is static and If I am not using my Playstation, it is usually turned off. Plasmas usually have a much higher contrast ratio than LCD and, as someone already stated, deeper black tones which make shadows, etc. look more realistic and less washed out. I think given that there seems to be a greater emphasis on shadow details in games nowadays, this is equally important as when I am watching a film. Having said that, a lot of people prefer LCD picture and it is largely a matter of personal preference. LCDs are generally significantly less expensive though.

Informative post. But one thing I miss is, what are LCD screens better at displaying?

Plasma is a more power consuming technology than LCD, and that might be of importance if you live somewhere where electricity is very expensive.
