A game is usually best on its original platform. For GTA SA was not that a console - PS2?
Anyway, the game rocks on PS2. The Dualshock 2 gamepad is perfect for controlling the game. I don't know much about the PC version.

PC - Sharper graphics, and the nearly limitless modding potential. Want a pistol that destroys cars in one hit? Mod it in with a simple text alteration. Script mods are a bit harder but still possible, you can make the GSF or any other gang carry any weapons you want, rocket launchers, snipers etc. Unfortunately their aim is still shite as fuck.

If he wants to install mods on the game then he has no choice but the PC. But not everyone cares about modding and this game is perfect unmodded. Also modding requires a little skills. It's no science but not everyone knows how.

On all platforms you have many different cheats, which is a simple way to temporarily mod the game. There's a ton of cheat codes for PS2, but I don't care about using them because the game is so great originally.

I might come off sounding bias on this but I would shoot at PC if you have the following;

Intel Pentuim 4 (or better)
512MB RAM
512MB Video Card

I know this is above the requirements but the game plays better with the specs above. Also you can grab a PC DVD of the game at Wal-Mart for about $10. Also you can run mods on it making it a lot more fun.

The only reason I would suggest getting the Play Station version would be if you are strapped for cash and don't have a PC... but I assume you posted on a PC.

Yeah I am probably going for ps2 because I have played it on ps2 and I don't really think it needs any mods as it is already a good game.

The PS2 version supports widescreen. Although the PC version might have higher resolution it looks great on a big tv screen.

the PS2 has harder to complete mission. Some of those missions were 'softened' on the PC because of player complaints.
Using the Keyboard and Mouse in itself can make a mission either harder or easier. The Ability to use a GamePad would make the PC easier to playon.

Some missions were hard on PS2, but I like a challenge! biggrin.gif Most missions were easy or average though.

Keys on a keyboard is either 0 or 1. Off or on. The PS2 joypad has two analog joysticks. And its four most used buttons are pressure sensitive; the harder you push the more response. I think they got two steps.

Up until GTA IV I had always considered the GTA games to be better on PC. But IV ruined that.

thats exactly what I was thinking. PC is much better for the replay factor. mods mean you can play on and on and on. Im still occasionally going on vice city on my pc eventhough ive had it for like 6 years. I think Ive doubled the size of the map by adding different things from mod packs. the shopping trolly is my favourite by far. haha

On the PC version, how many functions do you have for the mouse? For all the things you have to use keys for, it is either 0 or 1 (binary). The Sony Dualshock controller let you walk slow, less slow, medium, fast, faster.... same with aiming and car steering. The two analog joysticks are good for this.
The PC version is better at some things, but control vice I find it hard to believe it is not inferior.

Also, a gamepad lets you sit with all the controls in your hands, on your lap. It's more relaxing than having to use the hand on a keyboard.

I would argue that with a keyboard the keys are laid out not so close to each other, meaning there's less chance of you pressing a wrong key by mistake, also there are a multitude of actions that can be assigned to different keys. From my experience it's much easier to fly the Hydra on a PC than the PS2 (which was still easy mind you.) I flew the Hydra upside down more than I did the right way up.

If you are using a LapTop they will be Blue keys around the JKL letter keys, which are activated by pressing a Blue Key labeled FN usually on the lower row left side of the keyboard.
Very Important: The Game will tell you which key to press during the cutscene of most New actions. So donít rush through or bypass the cut scenes (at least not during the first time they show.)
When on ―-FOOT――
Using the KEYBOARD:

For CJ to run briefly faster (Sprint), Use the SpaceBar. (If you do the Burglary Side-mission CJ can sprint for ever unless he has a heavy weapon in his hands.
To Aim a weapon press the DEL key.
E selects the Next weapon or Target.
Q selects the Previous weapon or Target
To Fire a weapon press the NumPad 0 key. (zero)
C makes CJ crouch.
G if you aim at a fellow hoodie and tap the G key He may join CJís Personal Gang; how many that will join CJ depends on his Respect level. (G = Recruit)
G if you already have a fellow gang-member(s) he will move closer or follow CJ. If you hold this key too long he will leave.
H recruited gang members will Leave.
To do actions, like pickup/exchange an item, press the TAB key.

Zoom In using the PGUP key
Zoom Out using the PGDN key
Enter/Exit a vehicle using the RETURN key
Chang Camera View (V) by using the HOME key
Jump by using the Right CTRL key
Aim Weapon using the CAPS LOCK key.
MOUSE:
Fire = Left Mouse Button (LMB)
Next Weapon/Target = roll mouse wheel UP (MWU)
Previous Weapon/Target = roll mouse wheel DOWN (MWD)
Zoom In = MWU.
Zoom Out = MWD.
Aim Weapon = Right Mouse Button (RMB)
Look Behind = Middle Mouse Button (MMB)
――VEHICLE CONTROLS―-
Fire = Right CTRL Key also LMB
Secondary (other fire) = Left CTRL key
Go Faster = W
Brake or Reverse = S
Turn Left = A (or left Arrow)
Turn Right = D (or Right Arrow)
Steer Forward or Dive = Up Arrow
Steer Back or Climb = Down Arrow
Enter or Exit Vehicle = F (or RETURN key)
If you are offered a Trip Skip (you have already attempted a long travel mission and failed.) press the Y key.
Select the Next Radio Station Ė INS key, or 4 key, or MWU.
Select the Previous Radio Station = DEL key, or R key, or MWD.

To change the Camera View = HOME key or V.
Handbrake (or 4Wheel steering on some vehicles) = SPACE bar or Right CTRL key.
Look Behind = the Q and E keys at the same time. Or the MMB.
Look to the Left = Q key
Look to the Right = E key.
In some situations you have to use Special keys such as the LowRider Jumping Car competitions:
Special Control Left = NumPad 4
Special Control Right = NumPad 6
Special Control Up = NumPad 8 (or DEL key)
Special Control Down = NumPad 2 (or END key)
To jump up & Left = NumPad 4 and 8 at same time.
To jump up & Right = NumPad 6 and 8 at same time.
To Jump down & Left = NumPad 4 and 2 at same time.
To Jump down & Right = NumPad 6 and 2 at the same time.
Make sure your Keyboard - Repeat Delay is SHORT & Repeat Rate is FAST
(Start/Control Panel/Keyboard)
AND THEN THERES
Auto-Aim with Keyboard and Mouse.
Easiest way is to get a USB GamePad (12 button minimum). If you already have a console game, (Adapter cables are available for console controllers, but I donít recommend them.) Then you can play like on the consoles. Much more fun than keyboard and mouse and this game recommends GamePad use.
OR if you must use the Keyboard and Mouse then:
Aim Weapon = [Del] key or [Caps] lock key
or [RMB] Right Mouse button.
Next target = E or [Enter] key
or [MWU] Mouse Wheel Up.
Previous target = Q or [.] on Num Pad
or [MWD] Mouse Wheel Down.
Fire Weapon = [0] on Num Pad or Left [Ctrl] key
or [LMB] Left Mouse Button.
Manual page 7.
And if you are using a LapTop then you must engage the blue [FN] key to activate the imbedded num pad (around keys JKL)
Also girishb has said that: If you want auto-aim on PC, just change your settings to Joystick in the controller options. However, you'll lose your free look ability with the mouse.

Don't forget you are not restricted to using those keys as you would be on a console, you can bind any key to any action to suit your playing style.

With a keyboard:

How do you steer slightly left/right?
How do you walk slowly?
How do you walk faster?
How do you rotate (aim) a weapon slowly?

Tap a key or move mouse slowly.

Better Still is to get a USB Generic (12 Button) GamePad as recommended by the Rockstar people.
The left analog stickallows a very slow walk to a run. Then using another button with the stick he'll sprint.

I use a Logetech Dual Action, works great. Straight from the box without having to install any fancy drivers.

How many walking speeds do you want? Walk, run and sprint should be sufficient shouldn't it? Why would you be that bothered that CJ doesn't have a speed between walk and run? "Oh, I wanted to complete this mission while walking at a fast pace but not fast enough to break into a run."
