got an ipod touch(mentioned it before at some point, made reference to my mums inability to hide things) spent several hours not bothering with it and now im putting some tunes on it. highlight has to be the rc helicopter my auntie got me (proper big boys toy, no children allowed near it). cheap gift but so much fucking fun. used three sets of batteries on it. how old am I again, lol

I remember one of my niece's getting one of those helicopters last Christmas and everyone decided I'd be the best person to show her how to use it. Two battery charges later and I was still bouncing it off the ceiling - those demonstrators in the stores make it look so easy.

For my radiography course.

Aw hot damn, looks just about anatomy teaching lab standard.

Do all the vertebrae articulate right (I'm thinkin' axis mainly here), does it have the right neurocranial fissures and forumens? Phalanges and carpals look a bit melded, and I guess you can't really get a hyoid bone on something like that...

How much was it? Sorry for the Spanish inquisition, I just really ought to get one for finals/to have one in general.

The vertebrae don't move unfortunately, but they do accurately show the normal lordoses and kyphosis of the spine, as well as the relative positions of the spinous processes (C7 sticks out like a sore thumb and the T processes overlap) and the lntervertebral discs (including an example of a herniated disc inbetween L4 and L5 - which I've just noticed you can see in the photo). The neurocranium is accurately represented and the top does lift like on full-sized models so you can see the structure inside the skull as well. The carpal and tarsal bones are all melded yes, because on this scale they are too small for the joint spaces to be defined correctly. The carpals seem to be a bit off imo, but the shape of the tarsals seems to be right. The phalanges are melded as well but the shape of the cortices are correct.

It's a brilliant piece of kit if you want to learn the actual shape of the bones in 3D (I can't get a full 3D image looking at two perpendicular 2D views, and oblique views just make things more confusing if you don't know wtf you're looking at) and see where all the tuberosities and other sites for attachment are, but you can't see how the smaller bones articulate and some of the relative sizes are a bit off. Apparently if you stand up straight and lift your (extended) leg just so the calcaneum is at the level of the iliac crests, you can touch your foot with an extended arm. If you need real accuracy, you'll need a full size model, but for me it's great, because when you look at a radiograph of an oblique hip or something for the first time, it makes absolutely no fucking sense. Now, I can see exactly what's what.

No idea on price, but I'm guessing 35-40, which isn't bad in itself, but when I think I'll probably keep it for the next 40 years, is probably the bargain of the century.

You mean 350-400? There's no way that was anything less than a few hundred.

(Assuming it's lifesize - 5' 3" plus?)

Nah tongue.gif It's just over 30 inches I think. I'm glad my choice of angles was so deceiving, haha.

Yeah it was really hard to gauge from that angle and I tried to determine the length by using the pattern on the wallpaper and decided it must be sitting on a unit or something. Still decided it was around 5ft tall even though I knew it wasn't. How dare you play games with my eyes!!

Duff: I do have a full human skeleton of my own in the lab, you don't need to tell me these things tongue.gif

Just wondering about the price of a model for myself, would greatly help if I could get one.

What do you mean by oblique by the way? It's a voluntary and cardiac muscle descriptor, to me...Sag/Cor/Tran/Prosection?

Massacre: I'd have sex with me. I miss it when this forum was full of trendy kids. Oh my Raven.

I wasn't trying to lecture you, was only saying what it shows and doesn't show tongue.gif

Oblique views are ones that aren't parallel or perpendicular to at least two of the planes (i.e. they're angled...).

Never heard of that before in my life, I'd just call it an angled prosection.

Anyway, Christmas!

In my experience, "trendy" usually means "gay." I'll stick with clothing that allows me to retain some semblance of my dignity.

QUOTE (Massacre @ Mar 15 2011, 01:24 AM) *
Oh, good one. The "you're on the internet so you must have no life" insult isn't moronic or unoriginal at all. You must, without a doubt, be a very important member of society, not at all a waste of the already barely valuable gift of life.

As is the case for everyone who takes issue with people who make them sad on the internet, you are one of two kinds of people:

You are exactly what you claim I am, and that is a lonely, pathetic basement dweller. You life is spent eating eight pounds of junk food per day, masturbating to anything you find online that's even remotely feminine, and wishing you had good looks and social skills. You continue to live with your mother until she dies of a combination of lung cancer and liver failure brought on by the chain-smoking and heavy drinking she used to cope with what a failure you are. Your mother mercifully dead and free of the living embodiment of failure she regretfully thrust from her loins, the bills start to pile up and you, unemployed and unable to pay these bills (of course), lose the house and everything in it. Somehow even more of a failure than you already were, you wander from place to place eating out of dumpsters and sleeping in your own filth until you finally die of AIDS, which you contracted from a diseased whore you scrounged up enough money to pay for, so you could finally lose your virginity while at the same time pretending that your mother was back in your life.

Or:

You are the type who was an athlete in high school, who was genetically doomed to be an idiot but managed to finish school and even get a college scholarship because you were so good at a worthless children's game. You went off to college with a suitcase full of polo shirts and condoms, the polo shirts, because you're a douche, and the condoms to prevent you from impregnating the dim-witted young college girls whom you could never touch without the aid of Rohypnol, a drug you refer to as "roofies" because you can neither spell or pronounce Rohypnol. You scrape by with borderline D's for the next four years, and leave the campus to go out into the real world where your realize you're not intelligent or talented enough to do anything of value with your life. Misery and minimum wage ensues for thirty years, then you blow your brains out, and your corpse, alone and forgotten, is not discovered until the smell of rotting flesh seeps under your door and your bodily fluids finally soak through the floor of your studio apartment and into the room below you. Your body is cremated, the ashes scraped into a garbage bin because there was no one in your life who valued you enough to pay for a casket, funeral, or burial plot.

You're undoubtedly one of the two, otherwise you would have better things to do than complain about the theme of a forum that doesn't care about anything you have to say.
