I sort of like political or social rap. Serious shit, nothing too arrogant. I can't say I know any artists for sure that fit this shoe but I'm hoping some of you cats can show me. Most the of the videos here seem to be a dumbass holding chains or baring his teeth...

Yeah, there have been some really whack tracks in here - I propose that the guy who posted Ya Boy and Gucci Mayne be BFHHT (banned from hip hop thread). As far as Concious Hip Hop goes, I'd say check out some Dead Prez and similar acts. I don't like that stuff though, they are almost all socialists and have no fucking clue what they're talking about. The best sort of hip hop IMO is the deeper stuff where they draw on real life experiences that are Žasy to relate to, for example:

There is some good concious hip hop though, most notably (and surprisingly) 2pac's earlier stuff:

That's before he was a "gangsta rapper". Listen to all that I just posted, it won't disapoint.

A song about MTV.

And i'm sure anyone who has any knowledge of rap will have heard of Immortal Technique. (I don't like the fan video though.)

And I don't think there are any artists that are exclusively classed as political, the subject matter varies from song to song.

Mos Def - Priority

I did a noob trying to post it last time lol

Also, people listen to Wale's - "Mixtape about nothing"
It's free and one of the best mixtapes i've heard, he's quickly become one of my favourite rappers. None of the "hoes and poppin champagne" crap.

Checked his last.fm page, it seems he's doing an event with 50 Cent, that immediately gave me a negative opinion of him. But i'll give him a listen.

It's funny seeing those average rappers going there hardest on that track and still sounding so-so, then Eminem comming on at the end with all of Slaughterhouse behind him and fucking murdering that track.

Blame the drugs, but I've been listening to a bit of rap lately. Currently I'm liking Wu-Tang, N.W.A and the various solo albums, Snoop, occasional DMX song, Public Enemy, and I must confess, some Eminem. Any suggestions based on that? I'm really not interested in any of these bling wearing faggots with grills, so don't bother suggesting them.

Also, inb4 Soulja Boy is god.

I guess you would like the first 5 Wu solo albums (and some after them), early Nas, Gravediggaz, Cypress Hill (maybe), Mos Def, and Necro. And other stuff.

Did anyone like "Cuban Linx 2"? I did.

I dunno if I heard bad Necro songs, but he was kinda shit. Also, I may as well have kept this in the Metal section if Sebek is the only one who's gonna discuss it. We truly are soulmates.

Which ones did you listen to, the ones I posted? IMO The Pre-fix for Death is his best album.

And I prefer Sunz of Man and Killarmy to Gravediggaz.

I'd also recommend the following;

MF Grimm - American Hunger
Killah Priest - Heavy Mental
Jeru The Damaja - The Sun Rises In The East
GZA - Liquid Swords
Canibus - Rip The Jacker

Depends what you're into really, Jeru and GZA's are classic albums, Canibus' album is very complex and has a lot of scientific wordplay. Priest is more spiritual.

Try this. May be hard to understand to if your from America but the lyrics are amazing.

If you can't understand him here are the lyrics:

Another hearse roll up slow,
Carry one more poor lost soul,
Carry them things every single day
Coz it makes him feel safe
Coz he carry on them ways, screw face
Love the game-reppin? his estate,
Talk tough look straight in his face,
Carrying deep pain self-hate,
Carry fam, so he carry weight,
It?s logical daddy got carried away,
Not married away, just didn't stay
Coward carried his son to this fate,
His boys carrying weight in a wooden box
cant stand straight,
They was getting outta the game,
But look fate she don't wait
Now the woman in the front row, her face
t show no pain,
But her brain went insane on the day the
news came,
Stare into space, face numb,
The boy getting carried, she carried 9
months

Chorus

When this world strip me naked, I turn and
I face it,
And really believe I have the strength to
change it,
I'm crazy, it's blatant sometimes I get
carried away
When this world strip me naked, I turn and
I face it,
And really believe I have the strength to
change it,
I'm crazy, it's blatant sometimes I get
carried away

One more body bag getting carried back,
From the war zone where they carry
straps,
Where little kids is attacking tanks coz
they carry no fear of the man,
All they know here is they land
And a hero, gotta make a stand,
So they roll cold with it in their hand,
Let bang on the big bad man,
But this particular soldier never move
colder
Never enrolled to blow no homes up
Felt that life had carried him under
Chose to phone the number
The army gives you training,
Nothing they say could really explain it,
Sign them t papers, enslavement,
Now you're a tool to carry their hatred,
Rob, steal, strip a nation
All he wanted was qualifications
So he could carry his family places,
Better than those that he was raised in
Never really thought, he?d ever have to go
to war,
Now who's gonna tell his kids daddy can't
carry them no more

Chorus

Late reply, but I've warmed to Necro. He's pretty fucking good, and I appreciate the metal influence.

He was in a death metal band called Injustice with his brother Bill in 1989, when he was 13. They opened for Obituary and Sepultura. You'll notice he and Ill Bill reference a lot of metal bands in their songs, although Necro tends to do more metal inspired songs.

Worth checking out the Circle of Tyrants (Celtic Frost FTW,) I think I posted one of their songs on the first page of this topic. A group consisting of Necro, Ill Bill, Goretex and Mr. Hyde, they only did one album though.
