Does anyone else play poker?

Ive been playing since i was about 16. I play online mostly and twice a week i play live poker on a monday and thursday at two different pubs. One of the pubs i play in is for a league (Redtooth Poker) and the other, on thursdays, is a tournament where a couple of professionals play (Dave Dixie aka Dixie Dave who has been on alot of the Channel 5 Poker tournaments).

The site i play online with is PKR. In the last few days ive had a couple of 'big wins'. I won a 24seater tournament and got myself $21 and i came 4th in a 136 seater rebuy tournament and got myself $17. Ive also had some smaller wins on the 10 seater tournaments earning myself $5 a pop.

My username on PKR is FullMetalMonkey so if you see me about, give me a shout. smile.gif

I play on it because i like it. Not because its a 'n00b' site as you call it.

EDIT: Plus its a English ran site. And aimed at Europeans as American's are barred along with Russians.

What was the buy in for the 136 seat tourney... 17 for fourth place seems low....

I play poker on wptpoker.com (or whatever it is)... i've one 20 bucks a couple of times.. they have it set up so that you pay 20/month then buy into tournaments for "tourney chips", they give you 500 a day and most tourneys cost between 100 and a 1000 to buy in.. makes it legal in the US...

not really a good site though... i'd rather play live..

I play live tournaments @ Charity Poker places... when i play for cash i usually end up just above even after playing for 3 hours.. they take out 6 bucks every half hour though. Once i ended up 1000 and probably about once a month i'm up 200-300 dollars.. I've probablyed lost 100 5 times...

Over all i'd say i'm even in cash..

I've placed at a final table several times but i've never once first at any of the tourneys... i got second once.

I probably played in 25 tourneys there, but i've stopped going recently because i've been too busy with school/ect.

My biggest mistake so far is I had pocket aces and first position raised to 6 times the big blind (standard raise @ the table) which 2 people called before it got to me. 6x4=24 in the pot so i bet pot which was 25 bucks. The early position raiser called and everyone else folded..

the flop came King Queen four and the early better raised 25 into a 75 dollar pot, i figured maybe he had AK and hit his king so i reraised him all in for sixty more and he called. He showed pocket queens (giving him a set) to my AA.

It should have put him on a high pocket pair because he generally plays tight but i always get too excited with AA..

Luckily for me a ten and a jack runner runner'd me into the win... I have the dealer 25 bucks tip and shook hands with QQ.

It was only a $1 tournament. First place got about $64 i think. At the moment im only playing with for small stakes as im a wee bit skint.

Yeah i went on the PKR wiki and it mentioned the reason why American\\\'s were barred is because of a new law they brought in.

Thats the worst mistake with a pair of bullets. Alot of people on PKR seem to think their invincible. Personally id rather have AK as you can make two pair and more easier. Whereas with a pocket pair you are limited to the two cards in your hand and then have to get lucky you hit another pair or more on the board.

I play at the Brighton and Hove Grovesner casino every now and then but tend to play mostly at the famous London Victoria one but not that often as i prefer the stakes at my thursday night game. The prize is generally around £700. Won it a couple of times. Basicly you pay £12 to enter and a £10 rebuy for the first 8 blind level.

Its an illegal game but they way we get around it is by not leaving the money on the table we give it to the the owner of the pub to hold whilst were playing. Its a loophole in the law.

EDIT: QD i was going to ask where you were based but its in the US, i was going to say if you weren\\\'t then id offer to give you a few games on PKR. There are ways around getting past the IP ban but they also have stopped accepting American credit cards too.

Another EDIT later: Heres a few screenshots of some of my big money places in tournaments on PKR. I tend not to play cash games as you can lose your money too easilly.

QD - Goto www.PKR.tv and watch Episode 93.

Preferably watch from about the 42nd minute onwards, i watched a hand that almost made me sick. I have absolutely no idea why he folded the hand.

EDIT: Their also great shows to watch. The commentators are quite funny but also informed.

AK against pocket aces with on a AK# flop is still a horrible hand. I'd rather have the aces. The odds are aces win. I was at least 70 30 to with the QQ AA hand, i just read it wrong after the flop.

There are ways to get around online poker hear as well, i could play on Absolute Poker if i wanted but unless your willing to play for high stakes (20-40++ blinds ) which im not willing to do, the play is terrible and seems a lot more like playing the lottery than poker.

Live games at the very least feel better.

Yeah, SNG's are the only thing i'd play online.

Nah i mean i agree with having AA over AK with AK on the board (didnt read that bit) but in terms of going heads ups i find that AK tends to win more than AA as you can only bank on getting a pair hitting on the board. If that makes sense? Where as AK you can get two pair, full boat etc easier.

Had another nice win yesterday but i didnt take a screenshot. But seriously, if you can get around the security and ip bans join PKR. Its a nice community and you bump into alot of the same players so you get to chat and play some good poker.

Had a couple of horrible beats earlier. One of them i was expecting when i had to shove all in as the blind was going to kill me anyway. I had pocket 5s, the other dude had AK. Recently ive seen alot of 5s muller AK so i was reletively confident. Two queens and a 7 come out on the flop, then on the turn was a 10. I i was thinking all i need to dodge now is an A and im home free. Guess what drops but another bloody 10 and his highcard A wins. Bit sickening when that happens.

Especially when its about a 5% chance of him winning the hand after the turn dropped. But thats poker for you.

Oh and the commentry on PKR TV should really be hired by Rockstar North to do the commentry on the ingame TV poker game. Two of the commentators are so funny.

LOL @ Online Poker.

I play in about six REAL games a month, which is mostly what the wife will let me. I also dabble on poker on the blackberry; just to feed daily addictions.

I've got a weekly game on Thursdays with a bunch of college friends. Nothing too serious, $20-50 buy in; games are mostly Holdem and Omaha; with the occasional 7 card dealer call thrown in for good measure. Mostly an excuse to shoot the shit, smoke blunts and drink beer. Normally 8-12 players. Winner usually walks away with a couple hundo; depending if they split pot. Games usually end around 2AM or whenever the people playing all agree to quit. I usually pull two or three hundred a month from that. It pays for my weekly games and anything additional goes to...

... I try and play a couple of tournaments vs. the snowbird tourists. It's near impossible to sit at a table any night of the week, but if you manage to get in there during the day, even in the late afternoon; you can pick the table you want to play at. I eat people alive, stoicly of course. No one at the casino knows how to play; aside from the obvious hustlers. Bunch of tourists and degenerates. Tournaments usually run a couple hundred, but depend on the buy-in and it's really a crapshoot depending on who you're sitting with.

I also play at work sometimes during lunch with a couple of other guys who work on my floor. I really only do that for snack money and the chance to see some cards.

I'd say poker accounts for 10% of my monthly income. Enough to cover weed and videogames; and afford me quality time away from the Mrs. Person Eater.

I also hate when people rehash hands from previous games (especially over the internet). Everyone has terrible hands, fucking get over it. If you knew you shouldn't have played the hand, it's your fault. If you thought you could win with that hand and you learned from it, you didn't lose at all, you won on the inside.

Learn from every hand.

Stoic, ill have to come and play at that casino if i was ever in the area, which is unlikely, sounds like a nice easy place to earn some money.

BTW I take it you didnt read the whole thread either? I play twice a week, mondays and thursdays. Mondays is a league format and Thursdays is a cash tournament. Im not really a big fan of cash games (where your betting with money instead of chips). Id rather pay a fee, get some chips, if i go out rebuy (if allowed).

Definately. My best mate is more than likely going to work in Florida later this year, hes an electrician working on London buses and his company is moving him out there. All expenses paid, the works. So if/when he does and i pop over to see him ill give you a bell.

Im going to the Grosvenor in Brighton on Sunday to play in a tournament with my old man. Can't wait. Not played in a big stakes live tourny in ages. Almost won a ticket to WSOP 2009 last night, missed out by 2 bloody tables, won alot of money out of it though.

I played last Thursday, big pot for a house game, like $260 up for grabs. I had a terrible head cold and a clogged ear that was fucking up my hearing. This kid threw me off my game with his loud drunken rants. Couldn't focus on the game and got taken out quickly.

This week will be better.
