Hi all,

I had to format my hdd and reinstall windows. I have backed up the whole Documents and Settings folder. Now I would like to restore my save games. I tried to copy the save files from my backup but it seems like the game can't find them.
Is there any special way how to restore save games? I was and I'm using offline profile.

Thanks for any help.

Are those saves from the original 1.0, or the patched 1.1?

Where are you placing the savegame files exactly?

Can you give me an example of your directory where you placed the saves?

I have the same problems on my PC, using offline profile as well.

I had to reformat my hdd so i backed up all my folders that were involved with gta4. I transfered my saved games from C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Rockstar Games and i can see them in the game menu but they won't load properly. It says "load failed, please check your hard drive and try again".

Are there any other files that need to be transfered as well? Why can't they make it simple like it used to be? A saved games folder within the GTA4 folder or at least put it in my documents like vice city and san andreas... Stupid windows live.

i was in the same position as you but i found out a way of doing it.

Instructions:

1. Copy the files, SGTA4xx, from the folder "C:\Users\XXXXX\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames\user_xxxxxxxxxxxxxx\" (for vista) or "C:\Documents and Setting\XXXX\Application Data\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames\user_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx\ (XP) on your old installation to a safe place.
*NOTE, make sure u have 'show hidden files and folders' checked in Tools>Folder options>View

2. Go to your new installation and create a new Games for Windows live offline account.

3. Download XLive Wrapper from:
http://blog.gib.me/wp-content/uploads/2008...rapper_1207.zip
(this is for the new version of GTA4 so install the patch first)

4. Read the instructions, then install Xlive Wrapper.

5. Copy the old saved game files and put them under the new installation "C:\Users\XXXXX\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames\user_xxxxxxxxxxxxxx\" folder.

6. Run the game, cross your fingues and try to load the saved games. (should work) if it didnt, try re-installing Xlive Wrapper.

Hope it helped. smile.gif

and if you are running windows vista.
don't forget to back up the files here:

C:\Users\******\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games
