I can honestly say they dropped the ball on realism hands down when this happened:

I'm sprinting down the sidewalk and apparently ran into an african american who was in a gang. I had no idea until I walked into the diner and it said I had gangsters after me and wouldnt let me eat.

I walk outside the diner to find said negro challenging me to fisticuffs, to which I engage him.

The police show up(now remember, this is 1940s America we're talking here) they completely ignore him and pull out their guns and point them at me, causing me to drop to my knees and either pay them $50 or go to jail. I paid them money and stood up...they walked up to the black guy and say to him "Don't let me catch you doing that again."

Maybe they don't want to offend the aforementioned negros if they buy this game, so they deliberately remove any historical racism - the dirty niggers!

Ah what the hell, was it good?

It wasn't bad haha, I may buy the game, but not at release. Even with the demo I'm still not sure about it.

The main complaint about the negro man wasn't that he didn't get a billy club to the face, it was just the fact that the police held me at gunpoint while they let him go on about his business.

And the cars and character don't necessarily handle like crap...just...different.

i have to disagree i think that, that the character doesnt move quick enough, i was tapping x thinking it would make him sprint like in gta.

the cars i felt moved really easily i didnt think they were heavy atall. i loved the shotgun in it, it blew people away literally lol.

i too experienced a random african american guy start a fight with me in a shop, apparently i had gangsters after me also.

i told dup today that i thought the graphics looked a little edgy, its really more noticable in the distance, like trees and a bridge im looking at just now, but the houses on the streets look really good and so do the roads.

i dont think ill get it on release since money is tight and im going to buy playstation move and my girlfriends birthday is coming up, but i think ill get it eventually maybe, unless L.A noire comes out before i go to buy this lol....

Well, do the cars handle like you'd expect 1940's cars to? Plus they're American cars which means they handle like crap anyway. happy.gif

Its one of the shoulder buttons that makes him sprint. And I don't mean walking speed quick I mean looking around and all that. Like I said, I'm used to the charaters in RDR atm, with their slower turning speed and stuff.

And we must be driving different cars or my breaks don't work or something.
I was also partial to the Tommy Gun myself.

They do, as in lack of power steering and having the type brakes you have to stand on to get a car to stop.

I think the game has some potential, and it probably will be good, but like I said one hundred times before...I still don't know if its worthy of a release date purchase. The demo shows you some features, and I hope there are, but not enough to sell it to me ATM.

BTW cops are kinda annoying on the game.

And Jamie, have you figured out how to tell how much gas your car has? I noticed you can refill them...but I don't see a gas gauge anywhere.

Dupzor. You moan you can't play the Demo? You just built a PC that could easily handle the game and the demo's on Steam.

yup, i'm downloading the demo when i get home today... i said that i would base my purchase alone on the demo... if it looks like a lot of fun, i'm buying it... if it's just OK, then i'm waiting until sometime later in the year, or possibly next year... everything hinges on whether or not the demo kicks ass...

but, from what i've read so far, it sounds like fun... we shall see in a few hours...

Oh, good one. The "you're on the internet so you must have no life" insult isn't moronic or unoriginal at all. You must, without a doubt, be a very important member of society, not at all a waste of the already barely valuable gift of life.

As is the case for everyone who takes issue with people who make them sad on the internet, you are one of two kinds of people:

You are exactly what you claim I am, and that is a lonely, pathetic basement dweller. You life is spent eating eight pounds of junk food per day, masturbating to anything you find online that's even remotely feminine, and wishing you had good looks and social skills. You continue to live with your mother until she dies of a combination of lung cancer and liver failure brought on by the chain-smoking and heavy drinking she used to cope with what a failure you are. Your mother mercifully dead and free of the living embodiment of failure she regretfully thrust from her loins, the bills start to pile up and you, unemployed and unable to pay these bills (of course), lose the house and everything in it. Somehow even more of a failure than you already were, you wander from place to place eating out of dumpsters and sleeping in your own filth until you finally die of AIDS, which you contracted from a diseased whore you scrounged up enough money to pay for, so you could finally lose your virginity while at the same time pretending that your mother was back in your life.

Or:

You are the type who was an athlete in high school, who was genetically doomed to be an idiot but managed to finish school and even get a college scholarship because you were so good at a worthless children's game. You went off to college with a suitcase full of polo shirts and condoms, the polo shirts, because you're a douche, and the condoms to prevent you from impregnating the dim-witted young college girls whom you could never touch without the aid of Rohypnol, a drug you refer to as "roofies" because you can neither spell or pronounce Rohypnol. You scrape by with borderline D's for the next four years, and leave the campus to go out into the real world where your realize you're not intelligent or talented enough to do anything of value with your life. Misery and minimum wage ensues for thirty years, then you blow your brains out, and your corpse, alone and forgotten, is not discovered until the smell of rotting flesh seeps under your door and your bodily fluids finally soak through the floor of your studio apartment and into the room below you. Your body is cremated, the ashes scraped into a garbage bin because there was no one in your life who valued you enough to pay for a casket, funeral, or burial plot.

You're undoubtedly one of the two, otherwise you would have better things to do than complain about the theme of a forum that doesn't care about anything you have to say.

True, But i want to play it on PS3. i rarely use my PC's for gaming. Mostly rendering and 3D modelling. But i may make an exception for this lol.

Well i'll make my decision once i've played it. I'll know straight away if i want to buy it or rent it.

PC Gaming > Console Gaming. Especially as you can just plug a controller into the PC and get better graphics.

i'd rather sit on the couch than at a desk to be honest... graphics aren't enough for me to plop down $2,000 to sit at a desk to play games... i'd rather sit on the comfy couch with my surround sounds system, and my HDTV, and play some games...

-------------------------------------------

so, i gave this demo a whirl and i am not all that impressed... here's my thoughts...

the camera is a bit of a pain to maneuver around... getting in and out of cars is a slow process... dying from a car crash is really dumb... getting shot at once or twice is enough to force you to stay back in cover for like 5 seconds until your health comes back... then you lean out and die instantly by a shotgun blast mad.gif... moving in and out of cover is a little jerky... what the fuck is the speed limit suppose to be? i kept getting pulled over because of this... yay, i can turn on faucets and open windows but, i can't figure out the point in all that... the cars handle, umm, strangly... it's way too easy to lose control of these big clunky beasts from the 50's... tapping the handbrake causes you to do donuts at 40 MPH, which isn't possible...

i opened the fridge and drank all the beers and got a cool blurred screen effect that lasted for a while, probably the highlight of the demo... i got a ped arrested by the police by starting a fight, then getting him to chase me until i passed a cop.. it's the old GTAIV trick... the destructive environment might be the most destructive one in a sandbox game ever... but, not everything is destructible... i killed myself by hitting small trees and small fences at fast speeds, which again, is very very annoying... it's cool that when your car dies, you can repair it and get her driving again... i did this like 6 times on one car, which is a nice touch... the shooting aspects have a nice touch but, something tells me this game is going to be extremely frustrating in the latter levels due to the insanely low amount of health you have...

overall, i am not in a rush to play this... we'll see what the reviews say but, i predict around 8's... nothing special but, it will probably have it's moments... i am not really sure what they have in store for side-missions but, it could sure use some... this city will get pretty boring real fast if there isn't much to do... the character models are really sharp though... very life-like and almost like heavy rain in the facial details... but the environment looks kind of rough at times, and the map looks very small compared to liberty city...

we'll see what the general consensus is though... i think a lot of people anticipating this game will feel a little disappointed...

There is a speed limiter so you dont go over. It keeps you at 40, so I guess thats it.

Thank you for pointing out other stuff, I mean I don't mind dying from a car wreck, its kinda cool.
AND IM IN LOVE WITH THE SOUNDTRACK.

You know, I was on break at work and I was texting my buddy about the demo and the more I texted him the more I realized I think I want this game.

Ok i started playing it. I loved the music, reminded me of Stand By Me lol. But i got to Misery Lane and i was shooting my way in the building and it crashed after an explosion. I had to hard reset.

I reloaded it. Had a little run about. Went to the gun store bought me a shotgun and loads of ammo. i noticed a shop with a hat icon but didnt stop to see. i'm guessing that was an outfitter. I had to bribe a cop with $200 because i was carrying a shotgun around the streets!

I was driving at full speed and went to handbrake round a corner gtaIII style, and the side of my car swung straight into the front of a moving bus. My character was near death... i like the fact you have to drive a little safer than usual, i dunno why though.

I like the little assets like prono mags, i never knew what early 1900's porn looked like until now XD.png

I think this game is pretty awesome tbh! I'm buying it for sure.

I'm a little disappointed with the polishing of graphics. I don't think they'll be much better on release. That's something the PC version will have an upper hand on.
I thought they'd at least include some sort of bloom effect to hide those very aliased hard edges.

Other than the graphics issues. I think this will be a AAA title.

I know, the US PS Plus always looks much better than ours. We are a smaller nation and net them less revenue, so we get the bargain bin rather than the decent title sales. That's one of the reasons i haven't gone for Plus yet.

Hey Dup you were worried about polish on the graphics. Just a wee reminder...that was tthe demo they showed the mags months and months ago, so it probably looks better now.

True. But i thought they would have had a more up-to-date looking version for this demo. Which makes me think that they havent polished it that much on ps3... I don't really care to be honest, it isn't that bad. I prefer the way it plays rather than the way it looks.

Shit, I didn't realize the demo was out. I'm downloading it, but I'm weary about playing it. I need to beat Godfather 2 before I dive into another sandbox gangster game.
