seeing that theres a football topic it seems only natural that theres a motorsport one.

so then, starting with F1, expecting to see more shocks this weekend at monza with nobody knowing the best setup for the cars, with it being one of the fastest tracks out there.
And going back a bit, fisichella going to ferrai till the end of the season, good idea or bad?

thought this topic needs a revival.

some news in the world of motorsport:
Silverstone secure the british grand prix for the next 17 years (its what the contract says)

Story from PlanetF1
QUOTE
The British Grand Prix has been saved following a new deal agreed between Silverstone chiefs and Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone.
The news was confirmed on Monday by Silverstone Circuits Limited, with the contract to run for the next 17 years.
It ensures the oldest race on the F1 calendar retains its place in motor sport history, with Silverstone able to step into the breach following Donington Park's failure to meet its obligations.

ecclestone also mentioned the fact that he could have made more money elsewhere, makes him look like a better person. he still robs them blind.

Yeah it's good to see he's coming back, but I hope he doesn't disappoint. He retired on the ultimate high in 2006. If he's shit next year, it won't look good.

True, but he will be 41 next year. I think everybody will know that he is unlikely to be at his best.

Bit of a topic revival here, but seeing that the season starts this weekend (Im watching the quali as we speak), I deemed it necessary.
So then, who do you think will win the first race and who will eventually win the drivers championship. schumi, hamilton, button or maybe alonso or massa?

I can't call it. The bottom 10 drivers/teams are just wasting their time, they are well off the pace. Bruno Senna was having problems matching the GP2 laptimes yesterday in FP2. The top teams seem to be hit and miss. I'm rooting for McLaren (British team and two British drivers, no reason not to really) but I think Red Bull are going to do well, as long as they don't suffer from the same reliability issues as last season. Ferrari are quick too though and I think Schumacher will be a real threat in a few weeks time.

Now if you don't mind, I'm going to make this the official F1 discussion thread.

Well, i doubt we'll see any good track records this season, what with the banning of oil refills. The first race was pretty cool today smile.gif

definitely, nobody got near the top qualifying times and I think the best time was near 1.57/8

big factor this season, I personally think this will see less overtaking when people pit. the shorter pit times means there's less times for cars to pass through (even if it is for 1 lap) and potentially affect the final race result, I always loved that.

Boring race was boring. Watched 30 laps and didn't see a single on-track overtake in the points positions. The back of the grid was the most fun but only because the noob drivers kept making mistakes. Hope the season doesn't continue like this. Martin Whitmarsh said about the FIA needing to spice things up, maybe introducing two mandatory pit stops throughout the race to stop teams one-stopping and conserving the tyres for the race, like what happened today. Even the soft compound could last half the race, making the pit stop a waste of 20 seconds for each team. I don't know about that, but something certainly needs to be done if we can expect a 90 minute procession in the next 18 races.
