something like this, minus the flips and artsy stuff at the end.

instead of having the character just hop over everything, or do a pull up on every tall fence. Have them perform an efficient acrobatic maneuver to over come it quickly

I was going to come in here and disagree after reading the title, but you don't really mean parkour. You just want a more athletic character who can maneuver himself over walls and fences faster and more easily. That's a great idea, assuming the main character of the next GTA isn't Niko's age.

yes, like instead of when some guy in multiplayer is about to plow my ass, I can do a real nifty jump over his car, being that its not an SUV or a truck

Yeah I was already typing WHAT THE FUCK in bold while waiting for the page to load... A more athletic character would be good... It'd have to be fluid, and simple though.

It'd be especially useful during the times where you're getting shot at from all angles, and rather than just hopping behind a crate, Niko slowly and clunkily (is that a word?) turns around and lumbers into cover.

I'd like it to work similar to The Saboteur where you could climb buildings by using the drain pipes and window ledges. Things like that are possible (for someone who's very athletic) so it wouldn't be too over the top. If you can get a firm hold of something then it's possible to use it like a climbing frame.

Wouldn't be that hard to implement, just add drainpipes on the side of buildings that act as ladders and add a "shimmying up a drainpipe" animation, maybe make it a bit unpredictable where you'd have to tap a button to maintain your grip, otherwise you'd fall.

I think it's a must for the next GTA to include the ability to climb like the beginning of that video. Like Vicey said, it shouldn't be hard to implement.

I kind of agree with this post, but I'm hesitant to ask for a parkour GTA. Most of the recent sandbox games that were built ala GTA have allowed for some serious freedom with climbing/free running. Some of the titles have been already mentioned, like AC2 and Saboteur - but also Just Cause 2, Prototype, Crackdown and a few other recent titles have been built on the ability to easily traverse mountains, forests, buildings, cars and just about anything else you can imagine; all while keeping a fluid pace that most modern gamers have come to expect.

Red Dead didn't have much need for any kind of Parkour, free-running or limber climbing skills, but the next GTA will probably have to incorporate something, if only to meet the standards of everyone who has played previous sand-box games which give them the liberty to "go anywhere, do anything".

Of course, GTA has recently taken a more realistic tone. Niko moved like an older, serbian shithead would. Johnny was slow and cumbersome. Luis was more fluid, but still no Ezio/Altair.

I was disappointed by the lack of roof access in GTAIV, but instead of having my character climbing the side of the building, I'd like the game to be so realistic that I could go inside just about any building, take an elevator to the top floor and access the roof via stairwell or hatch.

Well there are a few buildings that have accessible stairwells and a also window cleaning platforms in GTA IV, plus the helicopters. And with the addition of parachutes it makes it even easier to gain access to a lot of rooftops.

The thing is GTA IV was set in a high-rise cityscape with hundreds tall buildings, and I don't think realistically even the most expert parkour enthusiast is going to be climbing up/jumping off of those. Maybe if the next game is set somewhere with a lot of low residential/commercial buildings (Vice City? blush.gif )
