Another thing they need is a proper disk tray.
I'm not sticking a $60 disk into a slot in molded plastic.

This has got to be one of the stupidest things i've ever heard. The "slot" has nothing to do with the drive.... which is quality.

Also, since bluray disks are 10x as scratch resistant as xbox360 dvd, and the xbox360 has a HISTORY of scratching disks when you tilt it from horizontal to verticle, how dare you.

That said, i havn't played my PS3 since i bought an xbox360, everything comes together just right and you don't realizing the "Cheapness" of it... also, since i know how to run ethernet cable i didn't have to get raped for a wireless network adapter that costs 3 dollars to make but makes MS $100.

Apparently Sony knows how to make consoles and MS knows how to sell them, but not vice versa.

:-/

It's not stupid.

Nothing to do with scratches, I have to work on machines all the time.

Personally, I like a disk tray.

Never had a problem with the PS3 or XB360 controller. WTF about wireless.

What about Wireless? I think wireless controls are THE best gaming invention to date.

It wont catch up with the 360. Thats around 5 million ahead. 360 im pretty sure is still cheaper. PS3 will close the gap to around 2 million.

Eventually, I think it will.

I was just going to say, the PS3 is still early in its console cycle that being priced at 300$ with it's potential not yet maxxed out for AAA titles and having incentives like blu-ray, wifi and free online that it will close the gap.

It's three years old now, which puts it about half-way through its likely lifecycle, and try explaining all that to the people who have had their 360 for four years now and have a massive game/hardware collection built up for it. It's not easy to play catch up in this business.

um, try the PS3 only being in the infant stages of it's cycle... your thinking of the xbox with only a few years left...

lol, it was playing catchup because xbox rushed their buggy system on the market in order to get a jumpstart in sales... with the gap between the two system so close these days, it's not playing catchup anymore... catchup was the word fanboys used to use a couple years ago... there's no such gap like that anymore... the PS3 closed the gap before the price drop... the new price is probably the last thing needed to overtake sales...

did any of you catch the news today of uncharted 2 getting the "greatest game of all time" review? yea, we have the games too...

Buggy system?

I guess I am stupid, or a penny-pincher.

Ever lost a video tape or a disk inside a machine?

I have to fix that kind of stuff all the time,
and still have flashbacks. I just thought it
a bit odd they would design it as such,
but perhaps it is a superior system. My bad.

Even the Phillips HD decks I deal with,
as sophisticated as they are, have the
same old problems.

...and the games are rather expensive,
at least $60, of our own money, not someone else's.

The biggest problem I had was they mis-labeled
the machine a 60Gb which had backwards compatability,
but in reality it was an 80Gb and the adapter was then
useless. I am sure I would love an original system
with backwards compatability, as 90% of my games
were for the old reliable PS2. 5% for Xbox, and 5% for PC.

I really wanted a PS3.

When I bought the 360Elite, I was surprised that after the beating I gave it,
had no problems, no RROD, no wireless issues, plenty of hard drive space, etc.

I owned an Xbox360 not too long ago and had it replaced with an 80 GB Playstation 3 console last year (June 2008) due to the RROD. I must say I'm quite pleased with the overall decision. The Playstation 3 can run games from any region, not to mention is excellent for watching movies (Blu-Ray disks, which are also good for a video game's storage space). The hardware, in my opinion, functions a lot better. Plus there's HOME and a nice selection of exclusive games such as The Getaway series, Gran Turismo 5 and FIA Formula 1 racing. All in all, I'm greatly satisfied.

Did anyone see that watchdog thing on Sony PS3's? They fixed the yellow light of death PS3's in the time the show was on. They finished them in like an hour or something. All they did was put the board and chip set in a special oven to re-mold the solder on the circuits. And Sony charge you for that if your warranty is over. And you have to wait up to 6 weeks.

I found something a little interesting. It sort of relates to the discussion here. I'm not starting a fanboy war, i just found it interesting. And I'm a PS3 owner, so it wouldn't be in my favor anyway...

QUOTE
Craig Alexander, Turbine's vp of product development, spoke at Austin GDC today in a panel called "MMOs to Consoles", which is no surprise since Turbine is working on a console MMO. It's investing heavily in the MMO console arena, and their current title, which remains unannounced, is in "active development."However, he did spend a lot of time pointing out how difficult it is to develop games on the PS3 vs. the Xbox 360. Duck your head as the fanboys go to it.

Here's the logic:

* The Blu-ray drive on the PS3 is actually slower in seek and access time than the DVD drive on the Xbox 360. Once the Blu-ray gets up to speed, it can handle large amount of data. Just not in seeking and accessing, which is a pain for streaming when you're playing something like an MMO.
* The memory architecture is different. When you're dealing with main memory, you work with "256ish MB" on the PS3 vs "512ish MB" on the 360.
* The tools aren't as friendly on the PS3. That includes the performance monitor tools, the debugger tools ... everything.
* Migrating a project from the Xbox 360 to the PS3 is much harder than moving from the PS3 to the 360.

Alexander recommends starting on the PS3 to get all of the heavy lifting done first, but using his same logic it sounds like developers will have a frustrating time during that process. Don't happy tools make happy workers? Gamers already feel like some titles suffer because they have to be developed for both platforms. Is this going to affect MMOs coming to both platforms?

Very interesting. Well, video games are the fastest growing medium. This isn't time for devs to say "its too hard"
